Rick Devens made one of his biggest moves yet on “Big Brother 28,” and “Survivor” alum Christian Hubicki believes taking the risk could pay off.
Hubicki joined Rob Cesternino on Rob Has a Podcast to break down Devens’ decision to use the Diamond Power of Veto to save Dee Valladares. The move removed Dee from the block and put Kamu in danger ahead of eviction, dramatically changing the direction of Yash’s Head of Household week.
While using such a valuable power came with risks, Hubicki argued that protecting Dee made sense for Devens’ long-term game.
Christian Hubicki Breaks Down Rick Devens’ Diamond Veto Move
Devens faced a difficult choice before using the Diamond Power of Veto.
Keeping the advantage hidden would have allowed him to avoid exposing another part of his game. However, losing Dee could have cost him one of his strongest relationships in the house.
Hubicki supported Devens’ decision to prioritize that connection, especially when considering the allies he may need as the game progresses toward the jury phase.
The move wasn’t without potential consequences.
Cesternino raised the possibility of a “threat spiral” developing if Kamu survives the week. With Kamu already establishing himself as a formidable competitor, surviving the Blockbuster could give him an opportunity to win power and retaliate against Devens.
That uncertainty highlights one of the challenges created by the “Big Brother 28” Blockbuster twist. Even carefully constructed eviction plans can change quickly when nominees have another opportunity to save themselves.
CBS/GettySurvivor Experience Shapes Big Brother 28 Strategy
Hubicki and Cesternino also examined how previous “Survivor” experience may be influencing Devens and Dee’s approach to “Big Brother.”
Both players have shown an interest in reconsidering votes and searching for opportunities to change the game, even late in the week. Hubicki discussed how those instincts differ from the slower structure of “Big Brother,” where players have more time to consider their relationships and potential consequences.
Dee’s game also became a point of comparison with her previous reality TV experience. Hubicki examined how her approach has evolved in a format that requires contestants to manage relationships for a much longer period.
Angela Murray’s return to the game similarly provided another opportunity to discuss how experienced reality competitors adapt when given another chance.
Hubicki and Cesternino also highlighted some of the season’s first-time players as the cast moves deeper into the competition.
Christian Hubicki Compares Big Brother to Life on a Submarine
Beyond strategy, Hubicki offered an unusual comparison for the mental experience of playing “Big Brother.”
He likened the isolation of the house to living on a submarine, where contestants spend extended periods surrounded by the same people with limited outside stimulation.
That environment can make excitement especially appealing and potentially encourage players to take risks they might otherwise avoid.
For Devens, using the Diamond Power of Veto certainly qualifies as a risk.
Saving Dee strengthened one important relationship but exposed his power and placed Kamu directly in danger. If Kamu leaves, Devens may have successfully removed a major competitive obstacle while protecting an ally.
If Kamu survives, the move could create an entirely different challenge.
Either way, Devens has ensured that his Diamond Veto won’t leave “Big Brother 28” without making an impact.
