Lala Kent Gets Emotional Over ‘Hardest’ Friendship Breakup With ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Co-Star

Lala Kent is now a full-time cast member on Bravo’s “The Valley” season 3, where she’s seen mingling with her former “Vanderpump Rules” co-stars Tom Schwartz, Brittany Cartwright, and Kristen Doute, as well as their San Fernando Valley friends.

However, during the May 1 episode of her “An Unlikely Affair” podcast, co-hosted with Ambyr Childers, Kent candidly admitted there’s one former VPR friendship she still “deeply” misses. She went on to call it the “hardest” friendship breakup she’s ever experienced.

In a new episode of her “An Unlikely Affair,” Lala Kent opened up about grieving the loss of her friendship with her “Vanderpump Rules” co-star Katie Maloney.

Kent revealed that losing her friendship with Maloney was the “hardest” breakup and one that led her to having to work with her sponsor to get through. ” I went through a lot of anger, a lot of resentment, a lot of sadness,” she shared with her co-host Ambyr Childers.

Getting into more detail, Kent admitted that she had “betrayed” Maloney during the VPR season 11 reunion when she brought up something private that was just between the two of them. “Katie was my best friend,” she said, adding, “So we were just doing what we’ve always done, but now on camera. And that friendship revived me. I felt safe. I felt seen. And it breaks my heart to know that in a matter of moments, I didn’t make her feel the same.”

At the reunion, Kent explained that she felt Maloney was behaving differently off-camera than she did on the show. For example, Kent exposed a private phone call she had with Maloney off-camera, in which Maloney appeared to complain about Ariana Madix regarding their new business.

During an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” Kent revealed that the reunion would be the last time she had ever spoken to Maloney.

During a conversation on the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast in July 2025, Maloney opened up about that betrayal.

“I think her and I, and our lives are in slightly different places, and sometimes it just means you’re not meeting on the same page,” she said, adding, “And, I don’t know, I just, I felt like, obviously she had been harboring certain feelings, and thinking certain things that I didn’t know that she had felt, and so she was saving them for the reunion, which I didn’t feel like was super authentic.”

When asked if Maloney could see herself having a genuine friendship with Kent, she admitted, “For violating my trust? No. Once you violate my trust like that, it’s very hard to come back from [it]. Trust is, like, the most important thing to me.”

Maloney added that their conversations off-camera were meant to be “private” because “not everything is” for the cameras.

“I’m allowed to have some kind of privacy and talk about emotions with people, like I do with my mom [and] I do with other friends. You were one of those people, just because you also happen to be on the show, I have plenty of those conversations with you as well, where you’re able to discuss things with me that are private, and I would never make public just for the sake of television,” she shared.

Kent Wrote an Apology Text to Maloney

During her podcast episode, a tearful Kent also revealed that she wrote out an apology text to Maloney for breaking her trust at the season 11 reunion. “I worked on a text message to her and sat on it for months and every time I would tell my sponsor I’m thinking about sending it today, she goes how is it going to make you feel if she doesn’t respond?”

When she wanted to send the message, Kent shared that she would “be pissed” if Maloney didn’t answer. So, after taking some time to process it all, Kent revealed that she got to a place where if Maloney didn’t respond, she would be okay with it.

“And if I don’t hear back, it doesn’t matter because I still mean, I still mean what I’m saying in this message,” Kent said, adding that Maloney never responded.

“I am totally content with that, she said. “So although I miss that friendship deeply and I know that there’s no repairing it, you know, we’ve both moved on.”
