Kelly Ripa Shares Why She Missed Son’s Broadway Moment—but Mark Consuelos Didn’t

Kelly Ripa is one proud mama! Her son, Joaquin Consuelos, appeared on Broadway in a first preview of the Broadway play “Death of a Salesman.” However, she wasn’t there to see it.

The former “All My Children” star said her son provided a good reason for her to skip his first show. She revealed his wishes on the March 9 episode of “Live with Kelly and Mark.”

Why Wasn’t Kelly Ripa Allowed to Attend Her Son Joaquin’s Broadway Debut?

Kelly Ripa told “Live with Kelly and Mark” viewers that Joaquin, who appears in the Arthur Miller-penned play, asked her not to attend the premiere. However, Mark Consuelos said he was allowed to see their youngest son in an episode clip from the daytime talk series.

Ripa explained, “I was not permitted to come. I said to him, ‘I want to come to the first preview.’ And he said, ‘Mom, no.'”

She continued, “He said, ‘It’s previews. Just wait ’til opening night.’ And I was like, ‘I don’t want to wait ’til opening night. I’d like to see a preview and then go to opening night.’ But I respected his wishes.” In contrast, Consuelos asked Joaquin when he could attend the play, and was told, “You can come whenever you want.”

Consuelos added that at the same time his son is making his Broadway debut, he is in rehearsals for his play, a revival of Noel Coward’s comedy “Fallen Angels.” He said they are, “going great by the way.”

Is This The First Time Mark and Joaquin Consuelos Will Be on Broadway Together?

This is the first time Joaquin Consuelos and Mark Consuelos will appear on Broadway at the same time. Joaquin is making his Broadway debut in the play “Death of a Salesman.” The 23-year-old will join fellow castmates Nathan Lane, Laurie Metcalf, Christopher Abbott, and Ben Ahlers per Playbill.

Joaquin portrays Young Biff. He joins a cast that also includes K. Todd Freeman, Jonathan Cake, John Drea, Michael Benjamin Washington, Tasha Lawrence, Jake Sibermann, Jake Termine, Karl Green, and Jack Falahee. “Death of a Salesman” opens April 9, 2026, at New York’s Winter Garden Theater.

The revival was originally scheduled to run for 14 weeks. However, performances have been extended an additional eight weeks, and will run through August 9.

Consuelos appears in the upcoming revival of Noël Coward’s “Fallen Angels” at the Roundabout Theater Company. Deadline previously reported that he was cast alongside Rose Byrne and Kelli O’Hara. “Fallen Angels” has a scheduled opening of April 19. The limited run concludes June 7. Additionally, the actor will continue to host “Live” each morning and act in the play in the evenings.

“Live With Kelly and Mark” airs weekdays in syndication.
