The Grand Ole Opry is raising some eyebrows with its latest announcement- that pop star Sabrina Carpenter will make her debut in the legendary circle on October 7.
In an Instagram post, the Opry put up a picture of Sabrina and a puppy in a director’s chair, with the caption, ““Oh, boy!” @sabrinacarpenter is making her Opry debut!
The two-time Grammy-award winning global superstar just released her 7th studio album “Man’s Best Friend” and we can’t wait to welcome her to the Opry stage on October 7.
See you soon, Sabrina!”
And that post has some country music fans asking questions.
Sabrina Carpenter Booking Gets Questions but Also Support
Country music fans were quick to comment on the post, expressing love for Sabrina Carpenter but a bit baffled by the booking.
“Ok love her so much but why is she at the opry 😂,” one fan commented.
Another wrote, “Well… this is interesting. I mean, I’m not hating like may other people in the comments are, I just don’t get why a non-country artist is going to play at the Opry. I do like some of Sabrina’s music.”
But others saw the vision right away, writing, “Anybody who can’t hear the country sound is her music isn’t listening. Congrats to her — this is an exciting moment!”
Another wrote, “i see the vision 100%. she definitely has country influence in her music”
Still another commented, “She actually does have country elements in her music and it can translate instrumentally to great acoustic performances, tbh”
Sabrina Carpenter Gained Country Cred in Dolly Parton Collab
Sabrina Carpenter may be firmly rooted in pop, but she’s already had success on the country charts.
Carpenter’s remix of her hit “Please Please Please” featuring Dolly Parton debuted on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart in February.
According to “Billboard,” the remix opened at No. 17 on the survey. Billboard says the song drew 6.3 million official U.S. streams and sold 2,000 downloads in its first week, according to Luminate.
Dolly even schooled the singer on country charm, asking Sabrina for a lyric change to “I beg you, don’t embarrass me, like the others,” instead of the original, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me” and then an expletive.
In a video posted on her Instagram account, Dolly teased Sabrina about some of her lyrics, saying “You and your dirty words! I can’t say them words for my kids.”
The singer referred to Dolly as “one of my biggest idols” in an Instagram post with a clip of the “Please Please Please” music video. Carpenter also posted an adorable TikTok of the two together. “She’s an icon, she’s a legend, she is the moment,” Sabrina lip-synced. Dolly then lip-syncs, “Now c’mon now.”
