Christie Brinkley & Billy Joel’s Relationship
Brinkley was previously in a relationship with Billy Joel, who penned the hit 1983 track, “Uptown Girl” about her. The couple divorced in 1994, but the song has followed her. She told People in a 2004 interview that she realized it had become her “theme song” when she was looking for her seats at the U.S. Open, and the song came on while footage of her and her son, Jack Brinkley Cook, was shown on the jumbo screen.
“I just thought it was a coincidence,” she said. “But Jack said, ‘No, Mom, look,’ and there we were up on the [jumbo] screen. That was the first time it really registered that I had a theme song. Entrance music.”
Brinkley and Joel’s relationship did not last, but she has beautiful memories from their time together. In an interview with People in April 2025, she gave insight into their connection. “We laughed like you couldn’t believe,” she said. “But also he was so sensitive and he did all the old-fashioned things, the flowers, the notes and the poems and the songs. He was going into the recording studio and he was writing all these songs and saying ‘This one’s for you.’ How could I not fall in love with him?”
She continued, “When I heard him sing on stage. I found myself undeniably attached to this physically hot and charismatic man.”
