“Dancing With the Stars“ fans know the world of professional dance will always have a special place in Derek Hough’s heart. But over the last few years, the 40-year-old’s priorities have shifted slightly.
Viewers expect to see him return as a judge in the ballroom this fall. However, some wonder if he will let his heart pull him in a new direction instead.
After a long day of rehearsals, something special makes the return home even sweeter.
Derek Hough Loves Being a Family Man
Getty“Dancing With the Stars” fans felt excited when Derek Hough finally married his long-time girlfriend, Hayley Erbert, in 2023. The pair met in 2014 and bonded over their mutual love of dance. They spent time together as professional dancers on “Dancing With the Stars” and the rest is history.
In Dec. 2025, Hayley gave birth to the couple’s first child, Everley Capri Hough. While the family is still adjusting to all the new changes that come with parenthood, they couldn’t be happier.
In fact, Derek can’t wait to return home after a long day of rehearsals.
“Coming home to this ♥️♥️” the judge posted on Instagram, attaching a sweet photo of his family. In the image, Hayley plays with baby Everley on the floor, while one of their many pets joins in on the fun. An orange cat poses on Hayley’s back. The Houghs have always been huge animal lovers and it seems they intend to pass that trait to their daughter.
The Utah dancer’s friends and fans alike went wild for the photo, fawning over the adorable scene. Many felt overjoyed to see the Hough family happy after their personal challenges over the years.
The Houghs Celebrate Their Rainbow Baby
In December 2023, Hayley Erbert Hough underwent emergency surgery following a cranial hematoma while on tour. A year later, she underwent a tragic miscarriage. In an interview with PEOPLE, Derek and Hayley shared they believe their daughter is the “rainbow after the storm.”
“There are so many times where I’m just quietly looking at her and tearing up. I said this to my family: ‘Hayley was meant for this.’ She is such a natural mother,” Derek told the publication.
Right now, the Houghs are preparing for their Symphony of Dance summer tour. The show kicks off on June 24 in California and concludes on Aug. 16 in Las Vegas. The tour will wrap up just in time for Derek to prepare for “Dancing With the Stars” season 35, expected to premiere this fall.
