Terri Irwin—wife of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin—shared a shocking family secret during a recent interview that many may not believe.
Terri Irwin’s Surprising Family Secret
Irwin sat down with Australian journalist Angela Bishop to discuss what it was like raising two children after the loss of her spouse. During the interview, Bishop praised Irwin for bringing up “two children who won ‘Dancing With the Stars‘ U.S.”
“To be completely honest, Steve and I never even danced at our wedding,” she admitted during the March 2 chat. “There is no dancing in the Irwin gene pool. I do not know where that came from.”
As “Dancing With the Stars” viewers know, Bindi Irwin took home the Mirrorball Trophy during season 21 of the hit competition series in 2015. Bindi—who was partnered with DWTS icon Derek Hough—was just 17 years old at the time.
Ten years later, Bindi’s younger brother, Robert Irwin, followed in her footsteps, winning season 34 of “Dancing With the Stars” with partner Witney Carson.
Robert Irwin Honored His Mother During Dedication Night
During “Dedication Night,” Robert chose to honor his mother with a contemporary dance to Phil Collins’ “You’ll Be In My Heart.”
Emotions were high throughout the dance, but there was not a dry eye in the audience as Terri appeared in a yellow dress to complete the final twirl of the routine with her son.
“She’s an absolute hero to me, because I was 2 when I lost dad,” Robert said of his mother during a pre-recorded interview. “As I got older, [I] started to realize just how hard it would have been for her to be there for us, and all the while continue dad’s legacy that her and dad built together.”
He went on to say that he’s “never been able to capture the feeling of gratitude I feel for it.”
“At every milestone when I just wished that my dad was there, she was there,” he added. “And that was enough.”
During her interview with Bishop, Terri explained, “Robert was just 2 years old when we lost Steve. And there’s a tendency to think, everything you do as a mom is kind of expected but maybe not noticed. For him to step out and say, ‘Wow, you did a really incredible job. Thank you for being there and for keeping everything going.’ It was very special for me.”
