On Jan. 22, Hallmark star Yan-Kay Crystal Lowe gave her Instagram followers some great news related to her breast cancer journey. “I am on my way to my appointment with my plastic surgeon,” she said. “This will be the final appointment that I have before I get my surgery.”
“The Wish Swap” star has just one chemotherapy appointment left. With less than four weeks until her surgery, Lowe has made some crucial decisions, which she confidently addressed to fans.
Lowe Details Intense Panic Before Double Mastectomy Decision
“I was feeling super weird about everything, and starting to get panicked,” Lowe revealed.” Like, am I making the right decision? Should I get a double mastectomy? Is this right for me?”
She explained that there were two different surgeries she qualified for, a mastectomy and a lumpectomy. While the survival rate was the same for both, the risk of recurrence was higher with the lumpectomy. “Meaning, it can come back more, without doing the mastectomy,” the “Signed, Sealed, and Delivered” actress said.
That information helped her make a decision. “I don’t want to play,” she said. “I don’t want to play that game.” She also admitted that there was “some stuff” in her other breast that doctors had been worried about.
“They didn’t think it was an issue, but I’m like, ‘I think we just need to let them go,'” she continued.
“So yeah,” she continued. “I feel really good about this decision.”
Lowe Celebrates Tiny Signs of Hair Growth: ‘Peach Fuzz Girl’
To treat the cancer, Lowe had undergone many infusions of the chemotherapy drug, Taxol (paclitaxel). As with most chemotherapy medications, hair loss is a side effect. In October 2025, she’d posted a video showing her hair much thinner and her subsequent shaved head. “Waking up to clumps of hair falling out was traumatic,” she captioned the post. Which made her news of a hint of hair growth all the more exciting.
“Look, you guys, you can see I have all this little hair coming back,” she said, running her hand over her head. “It started growing back at the end of Taxol. That could happen for you. I look like a little peach fuzz girl.”
Lowe’s friends, family, and fans took to the comments to wish her a speedy recovery. Many also shared their similar experiences.
“I had the same reaction, I wasn’t sure which was the best option,” commented one fan. “I decided on double mastectomy which I just had on Monday Jan 19. So I’m still in early stage of recovery.”
“I’m sending you love,” Lowe replied. “I hope your being taken care off.”
At the end of her Reel, Lowe reaffirmed her confidence in her choices and thanked everyone for sharing their own stories with her.
“I have taken all of that in,” she said. “Really, truly. I’ve researched and listened, but mainly listened to myself. And this is what I’ve decided to do right now. And so I feel really good about it, and I’ll keep you updated.”

As a double mastectomy flap survivor you got this. After surgery sucks and see if you can do hyperbaric therapy it helped my healing so much.
God be with your surgery team
I, too, had to make this decision, and it is not easy but in the long run, it was the best decision for me. Recovery was actually easier than I thought it would be. Eat right, walk for exercise and rest when you need it. And, just know that it will take a little time but things will get back to normal. Wishing you a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.
