Hallmark+ is giving fans a deeper look at its latest series with a new behind-the-scenes video featuring the Hope Valley 1874 cast.
The clip combines in-costume interviews with on-set footage, offering insight into both the characters and what it took to bring the story to life. From muddy filming conditions to early character reveals, the video gives viewers a more detailed preview of what to expect.
Hope Valley 1874 Cast Introduces Key Characters
In the video, several cast members share details about the roles they play and how their characters fit into the story.
Benjamin Ayres explains that he plays “Tom Moore, who is a rancher cowboy who settles the land that then becomes Coal Valley, that then becomes Hope Valley.”
“It’s 1874. It’s the middle of winter, and we’re cold, and we’re muddy, we’re wet. And I’m having the time of my life,” he says in the clip.
Bethany Joy Lenz also offers insight into her character, Rebecca Clarke, describing her as someone who has had to learn to rely on herself before slowly opening up to others.
“She meets a lovely group of people who are willing to step in and help offer community and care, and so she starts to rebuild her life,” Lenz said.
Meanwhile, Jill Hennessy describes her character Hattie as a central figure in the town, running the trading post alongside her daughter and interacting with nearly everyone in the community.
Filming Came With Real Challenges
Alongside the character details, the video also highlights the realities of filming in outdoor conditions.
Cast members describe working in cold, wet, and muddy environments while still performing physically demanding scenes. Despite the challenges, both Ayres and Lenz emphasize that the experience has been enjoyable.
“To be able to get out there and work, get on a horse, and dig in the mud, it’s been really fun,” Lenz says.
The footage shows cast and crew navigating rough terrain and unpredictable weather, offering a contrast to the polished final product viewers will see on screen.
Video Offers a Deeper Look at the Story
Beyond the physical challenges, the clip also helps clarify how the series connects to the broader Hope Valley timeline.
Ayres notes that his character is part of the early settlement that eventually evolves into Hope Valley, providing context that may answer questions some fans have had about the setting.
The video also reinforces the show’s central themes of community and resilience, with characters coming together to support one another while building new lives.
