Hallmark’s new movie, “A Royal Setting,” premieres on Saturday, March 28 at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central. The film stars Jen Lilley and Dan Jeannotte, who previously starred together in Hallmark’s “Paris, Wine and Romance.”
Read on to get the inside scoop on where the movie was filmed and what viewers can expect.
‘A Royal Setting’ Filmed in North Bay in Ontario, Canada
The new movie featuring Lilley and Jeannotte filmed in Ontario, Canada, according to Tonboriday.
The setting of “A Royal Setting” is a castle in the made up European kingdom of Gullion. While the movie will give viewers the feel of a European village, the North Bay Area of Ontario is where the cast and crew actually filmed.
North Bay is located about 3.5 hours north of Toronto, notes the website Northern Ontario Travel. It provides “the perfect mix of culture and wilderness,” the travel site teases, and is located on Lake Nipissing.
In addition to Lake Nipissing, the area also has Duchesnay Falls along with numerous beaches and hiking trails.
Hallmark viewers will get a taste of the area’s exquisite scenery in “A Royal Setting,” as romance blossoms between Lilley’s character, Ruby Robinson, and Jeannotte’s character, Prince Luca.
The Weather Wasn’t Always Cooperative During Filming in North Bay
Filming for “A Royal Setting” took place in August 2025. Lilley shared one fun tidbit about filming during an appearance on “The Hallmark Guy Podcast.”
At one point during “A Royal Setting,” viewers will see scenes that take place in a cabin. It turns out, there was bad weather in the area as they filmed.
Lilley explained that there had been tornadoes spotted in the area that particular day, and they were under either a Tornado Watch or a Tornado Warning.
The cabin where they were filming was located in the middle of a field, and it wasn’t truly a cabin. Lilley said it was a “made-for-filming cabin,” meaning that it wasn’t truly a building.
She added, “It was the worst place you could possibly be in a tornado.” During that time, “Everybody was freaking out,” and they were about an hour away from somewhere they could truly seek shelter.
Luckily, no severe weather hit their specific area, but it certainly made for an interesting experience.
‘A Royal Setting’ Cast
“A Royal Setting” marks Lilley’s return to Hallmark after several years working on films for Great American Family.
Jeannotte also starred in Hallmark’s “Love on the Danube: Royal Getaway” and “Good Witch.”
In addition to Lilley and Jeannotte, Decider shares that “A Royal Setting” also stars Ferelith Young, Ed Pinker, Laurie Paton, and Sarah Orenstein.
Orenstein plays Queen Ivy, Prince Luca’s mother. She is hesitant to embrace the ideas her son has for changing the kingdom, and she is wary of Ruby’s presence in Gullion.
Paton plays Countess Finella Stevens, the Queen’s personal advisor. She will not be very supportive of Ruby’s efforts and is exceedingly loyal to the Queen.
Young plays Jory, whose mother is the Countess Finella Stevens. Both Stevens and Queen Ivy have set their sights on pairing up Luca and Jory.
Pinker portrays the character of Zander, who is the Head of House for the royals and is also Prince Luca’s best friend.
The film was written by Ansley Gordon and W. Stewart, and directed by Bradley Walsh.
