Ahead of a new “Nelly Knows Mysteries” movie on Hallmark, stars Kavan Smith and Pascale Hutton gave fans some fun tidbits about what they can expect.
Hutton and Smith have already been working together on “When Calls the Heart” for years, and they did the initial 2024 “Nelly Knows Mysteries” movie together.
In a recent podcast appearance, Smith shared the adorable reason he immediately said yes to signing on to do “Nelly Knows Mysteries.”
Kavan Smith Wanted to Watch & Support Pascale Hutton Succeed in the Role
During the March 5 episode of the podcast “Heart in Motion,” Hutton and Smith bantered comfortably in a way that demonstrated just how much the two love working together.
Hutton was asked what she found exciting about working with Smith in a movie like “Nelly Knows Mysteries” after working with him for so long on “When Calls the Heart.” Before Smith could interject any kind of sarcastic response, Hutton beat him to it. “You know, I don’t find it that exciting, actually.” Her comment prompted a round of deep laughs.
On a somewhat more serious note, she relayed the story of how Smith reacted to the original script. Hutton said that Smith called her and said, “There’s not much for me [in it], but you’re gonna kill this. And I think I can create something for myself, but I want to be there to watch you go.”
She pointed out how generous that was of him, with Smith feeling that the character of Nelly was such a fit for Hutton that he wanted to do the project to see and support her in it.
Then, Hutton added, Smith “created this wonderful, charming, clever, witty character to counter Nelly.”
Smith said he remembered that call going a bit differently. He said, “I think I was like, ‘Yeah, your character’s okay. Mine sucks, but I’m gonna do it anyway.”
Hutton admitted that Smith’s recollection of the call was probably more accurate than hers.
Hallmark Fans Adore Smith & Hutton Together
When asked a bit about the plot of the new “Nelly Knows Mysteries” movie, Hutton started laughing and teased Smith, “He doesn’t remember. I can tell.”
Smith started laughing too before insisting that he absolutely did remember. He transitioned into ribbing Hutton into having to drive a BMW in the movie, teasing her about her unique style of driving.
On March 11, Smith shared a fun video via Instagram that was taken during filming that showed him in a car with Hutton, and it further demonstrated the pair’s comical dynamic.
The “Nelly Knows Mysteries” stars were being goofy while singing and eating. In the caption, Smith teased, “No. We had zero fun on this show!!!”
One fan gushed, “Best tv couple e v e r!!!!”
Another commented, “My guess is the two of you have zero fun on any show you do together! Ha! Ha! Looking forward to watching it.”
“Nelly Knows Mysteries: All Manners of Murder” premieres on Hallmark on Saturday, March 14, at 8 p.m. Eastern, 7 p.m. Central.

I love when these two do a movie together. They should have a series together just where they are the main stars. Their timing, compatibility are really tops.
