How Tamera & Tia Mowry Prioritize Family During the Holidays

Hallmark star Tamera Mowry-Housley and her sister, Tia Mowry, are self-confessed “early decorators.” Unsurprisingly, they each have very distinct tastes.

“I am the Winter Whimsy, so it’s all about the icy elegance and the different shades of blues. And I love a good sparkle,” Tia explained to People. Tamera, on the other hand, prefers “the traditional red and green colors, the plaids.”

However, with Christmas officially less than two months away, it’s also time for the Mowry families to start considering the logistics around their yearly family get-together.

Tamera and Tia Mowry Balance Their Busy Schedules for Family Christmas Time

“Now that we’re moms and we’re our own business women, we have our own itineraries. And this one right here, she is forever busy,” the “Haunted Harmony Mysteries: Buried at C” star said, gesturing to her sister. “So, I love when the holidays roll around, because I know I’m going to see her.”

“That’s what I love about the holidays. It’s time when we all can be still and focus on what really matters,” Tia chimed in. “Which is family and creating memories. I think what’s so beautiful is now that we’re older, it’s not just you and I. It’s our children, it’s our kids.”

Tamera has a son, Aden, 12, and a daughter, Ariah, 10, with her husband, Adam. Tia has two kids from her ex-husband Cory Hardrict: son Cree, 14, and daughter Cairo, 7. With Tamera in Napa Valley and Tia in Los Angeles, getting together with their families already requires planning. But it’s not just their schedules they have to plan around.

Logistical Challenges of the Mowry Families’ Annual Family Reunion

Tia and Tamera also have two younger brothers, Tahj and Tavior. Tahj is close to Tia and has a home in LA, as does their father, Timothy. Tavior lives in Nashville with his wife, Zandy, and two young children. Then, there is also their mother, Darlene. All the different locations obviously make holidays a bit of a “puzzle.”

“But we make a point to see each other at least once a year,” Tia explained about their large family.

“It’s hard with our busy schedules and our different lives to do both Thanksgiving and Christmas,” Tamera added. “So, if we don’t do Christmas, we’ll do Thanksgiving. If we don’t do Thanksgiving, we do Christmas.”

“For my family, we always host Christmas dinner,” she continued. “So, whoever’s available, they come. We do have our regulars — my mom is always the regular, my brother Tahj is always the regular — but it’s always nice when my dad and Tia come.”

And if someone can’t make it, they have a simple solution. “We will always FaceTime,” the “Baked With Love: Holiday” star revealed.
