Jasmine Roth shared details of the parenting struggle she faced while trying to process scary current events — how to answer her daughter’s question, “What’s wrong?” With no simple answers, the HGTV star explained it in the best way she could.
Jasmine Roth Shares Thoughts on Parenting in Tough Times
On January 26, Roth took to Instagram to share that she “didn’t have a good answer” to her daughter’s thoughtful question.
“‘Mommy what’s wrong?’ I opened my phone yesterday morning and the news hit me hard. Again. How could this be the reality? My 5 year old had walked into my room and immediately she knew I was upset,” Roth noted in the caption.
She continued, “As someone who strives to help others, it’s impossible not to feel this tragedy on a personal level. I couldn’t help but feel deeply saddened for another family who had experienced such unnecessary loss. As my daughter looked at me with her wide innocent eyes, I realized I didn’t have a good answer.”
The HGTV star went on to note, in part, “I don’t know know how to explain the uncertainty, the fear, the anger, the division, and the overall helplessness that so many of us — regardless of our political or religious beliefs — feel right now.”
“How my role as a mother, business owner, wife, and community member feels like more than I can handle and yet it still feels like I’m not doing enough. How I feel like my hands are tied,” she wrote.
“In that moment, there was nothing to do but hold my daughter and tell her that mommy was reading a sad and scary story,” Roth shared. “For now, I can be her safe place to land. I honestly don’t know what else to do … “
The HGTV star explained that “Becoming a parent has amplified this anxiety for me.”
Roth added, “It’s a scary time, it’s been a scary time, and I really hope we can move forward and learn in a way that brings us all more peace. I share this knowing it won’t fix anything, but just to share that so many of us are feeling overwhelmed right now.”
Jasmine Roth Focuses on the Mantra ‘Build Your Happy’
Roth has shared her personal mantra “Build Your Happy” with fans and reflected on how she achieved that in 2025.
“What a year! It’s been humbling, awe inspiring, peaceful, and impossibly hard all at the same time,” she wrote, in part, in a December 29 Instagram post.
Roth noted, “I’ve worked so hard to build my happy and I can honestly say it’s working.”
“Celebrating all the little moments, remembering to be present, focusing on the good, and congratulating myself for doing my best — these practices have become my focus (and obsession) and I love sharing my journey with all of you,” she added.
