After nearly a decade away, Luke Cage may not be done protecting Harlem just yet.
Mike Colter, who starred as the bulletproof Marvel hero in Netflix’s “Luke Cage,” is opening the door to a possible return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after eight years. While nothing has been officially announced, Colter says conversations have taken place, and for the first time in years, he is allowing himself and fans to feel cautiously optimistic.
Mike Colter Says the Door Is Finally Cracked Open
Colter portrayed Luke Cage across two seasons of “Luke Cage” from 2016 to 2018, along with appearances in “Jessica Jones” and the crossover series “The Defenders.” Since the show’s cancellation, the character has remained absent from the MCU, even as other former Netflix-era heroes have slowly made their way back.
During a recent appearance on the “On That Note” podcast, Colter acknowledged that his stance has shifted. “I was giving no one hope before, but now I am giving hope at least,” he said, confirming that discussions about Luke Cage’s future have happened, according to Men’s Journal.
The actor explained that after years of focusing on other projects, he has started to feel a pull back toward the role. Colter described it as “unfinished business,” especially as familiar faces from that era return. Charlie Cox’s Daredevil reappeared in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and later headlined Disney+’s “Daredevil: Born Again,” while Krysten Ritter is set to return as Jessica Jones in the series’ upcoming second season.
Colter stopped short of promising anything concrete but suggested the environment feels different now. “I’d say we’re in a better position to come into fruition faster than we think, so we’ll see,” he said, per IGN.
Fans Rally Behind Luke Cage’s Possible Comeback
News of Colter’s comments quickly spread online, and fans wasted no time sharing their excitement. On Reddit, longtime Marvel viewers praised the actor’s portrayal and voiced strong support for his return.
“He was a fantastic Luke Cage. Any shortcomings the show had were definitely not the fault of Mike Colter,” one user wrote.
Another fan echoed the sentiment, saying, “THAT WOULD BE GREAT. Colter was an excellent Cage.”
Others focused on Marvel’s next move. “Pay this man the money he deserves and let’s get going,” one comment read, while another added, “100%. He elevated the show.”
The fan reaction highlights how well Colter’s version of Luke Cage has aged, even as the MCU continues to evolve. While not every Netflix Marvel character appears to be making the jump back, momentum is clearly building for a potential reunion of some form.
For now, Marvel Studios has not confirmed any plans for Luke Cage’s return, and Colter has been careful not to overpromise. Still, his renewed optimism and the overwhelming fan response suggest that the hero’s story may not be finished after all.
As Colter put it himself, “I am giving hope at least.”
