A potential new clue has emerged in the search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie. “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie’s mom disappeared from her Catalina Foothills home five weeks ago, leaving her family and community desperate for answers.
Here’s the latest update on the investigation as the family waits for their beloved matriarch to be back home.
Investigators Review Damaged Utility Box Discovered Near Nancy Guthrie’s Home
Fox News Digital reporter Michael Ruiz shared a photo on X showing a damaged utility box discovered near Guthrie’s residence.
Ruiz noted that investigators are aware of the finding and are now reviewing whether the damaged equipment could be connected to the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
“It’s now been five weeks since Nancy Guthrie’s suspected abduction,” he wrote. “A PCSD spokesperson tells me investigators are aware of this damaged utility box around the corner from her home.”
As per a report in Today, officials confirmed that the item is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
KVOA confirmed on Sunday as they published a statement by the authorities: “It is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. At this time, we do not have any additional details to release.”
Internet Outage and Missing Ring Footage Raise New Questions
Investigators are also examining a reported internet outage that occurred during the same timeframe as Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the disruption is directly connected to the suspected abduction.
However, detectives say it remains an important detail as they continue piecing together the events of the early morning hours on Feb. 1.
Several neighbors have said that their Ring camera footage from the critical window was unavailable. NewsNation reporter Brian Entin noted that the outage appeared to align with the period investigators believe Guthrie disappeared.
Officials hope determining why the cameras went offline could help fill in the missing moments and shed light on what may have happened during those crucial hours.
Expert Suggests Suspects May Have Used Walkie-Talkies
GettyFormer FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer believes a small detail captured on camera could offer important insight into how the suspects may have carried out the crime.
The Irish Star reported that Coffindaffer pointed to doorbell camera footage from Guthrie’s home that appears to show a device resembling a handheld walkie-talkie in the suspect’s pocket.
She suggested the suspects may have relied on radios rather than cell phones to avoid leaving a digital trail.
According to Coffindaffer, that possibility could help explain why geofencing searches of nearby mobile devices have not produced meaningful leads. She added that the use of radios may also suggest more than one person was involved in the operation.
Authorities Continue Massive Evidence Review as Search Enters Week Five
As per a report in Today, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators have recently returned to Guthrie’s home as they continue searching for additional evidence that could help explain what happened.
Detectives are carefully reviewing thousands of hours of traffic camera footage from the surrounding area, hoping to identify any movements that may be connected to the case.
Authorities are also analyzing Ring camera footage that captured an armed, masked suspect near the property on the night Guthrie disappeared.
“Their big focus is on forensic evidence,” Nanos said during an interview with News 4 Tucson.
He added that both digital and DNA evidence remain under active examination as investigators work to rebuild the timeline of events from the early hours of Feb. 1.
