‘TODAY’ Show Gives Major Update in the Case of Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance

The “TODAY” show provided a major update in the case of Nancy Guthrie, 84, Savannah Guthrie’s mom, who TMZ reported to be missing on Feb. 1.

While co-hosts Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones, who filled in for Savannah, spoke with intelligence specialist Tom Winter on air on Monday, Feb. 2, the specialist said that “the evidence they found” at Nancy’s home led local police to give the case “special attention.”

Police Are Not Concerned About ‘Cognitive Issues’

Winter said that additional resources have been implemented in the investigation in hopes of seeing any clue that will lead officers to Nancy. During Winter’s update, the press conference that was held on Feb. 1 with Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos popped up, where Nanos could be heard saying there are “no signs of cognitive issues.”

Winter told the “TODAY” show that what investigators found at Nancy’s house “led them to this point where they thought this was something that required their urgent attention.”

The specialist continued, “They were able to get out helicopters last night that use infrared cameras. They’ve got drones up. They’ve enlisted the help of the customs and border protection — obviously, not too far from the border there in Mexico. They have some special resources. The FBI is also aware of this case as well.”

Winter added that Nancy getting lost is “not the case here,” adding that the main concern is her search and rescue and “physical health.”

“They want people in the Tucson area to call in tips,” Winters said, adding that anything “out of the ordinary” they can use to track Nancy will be utilized to find her.
