Savannah Guthrie’s Missing Mom’s Cognitive State Revealed

“TODAY” host Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy Guthrie, has been missing for more than 24 hours. She reportedly disappeared from her home outside of Tucson, Arizona, on the evening of Saturday, January 31, and search and rescue is underway.

Details surrounding Guthrie’s disappearance have come to light since her disappearance was made public.

Nancy Guthrie’s Cognitive Health

Guthrie reportedly does not suffer from any cognitive impairments such as dementia or Alzheimer’s, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed during a Sunday, February 1, press conference.

“She’s very alert, of good, sound mind — just some physical ailments that limit her ability to move around,” Nanos said, according to NBC.

He went on to say that the scene of her disappearance is “very concerning.”

“We don’t typically get the sheriff out to a scene like this, but it’s very concerning what we’re learning from the house,” Nanos added. “It’s not standard — typically our homicide team comes out when we have a homicide, a body. But simply by what the scene was telling us, we felt the need to bring the homicide team.”

During Monday’s episode of “TODAY,” Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones—who filled in for Guthrie—spoke with NBC crime analyst Tom Winter.

“The FBI is also aware of this case… given the nature of what was found at the scene,” Winter explained. “That’s what has got them so concerned.”

Winter continued, “They were able to get out helicopters last night that use infrared cameras. They’ve got drones up. They’ve enlisted the help of the customs and border protection — obviously, not too far from the border there in Mexico. They have some special resources. The FBI is also aware of this case as well.”

The analyst echoed Nanos claims surrounding Guthrie’s mental state, claiming Nancy getting lost is “not the case here.”

Nancy Guthrie Is Without Her Medications

While Guthrie is not cognitively impaired, the 84-year-old is dependent on medication for survival.

On Monday, February 2, Savannah Guthrie’s co-host, Jenna Bush Hager, shared a devastating health update on the beloved grandmother.

“I know her personally. And we want to just report, too, that she takes daily medication and she needs them for survival,” Hager said. “She’s without her medication. We are thinking of our dearest, dearest Savannah and her whole family right now in our prayers.”

Savannah released a statement Monday, thanking law enforcement as well as fans for their well-wishes.

“Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom,” she added.
