Former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Crystal Kung Minkoff is shedding new light on the ongoing Amanda Frances conversation — and what she says Kyle Richards told her offers a different perspective than what viewers have seen play out publicly.
Speaking on her “Humble Brag” podcast, Crystal revealed she recently ran into Kyle, who opened up about how she really felt about Amanda amid the growing scrutiny surrounding her.
“I ran into Kyle,” Crystal said. “She said to me she felt really bad for Amanda.”
The comment stands out, especially as Amanda has faced mounting criticism in recent months, with several cast members and fans questioning her business approach and the messaging around her money-focused brand.
Kyle Richards’ Off-Camera Reaction
According to Crystal, Kyle’s feelings went beyond sympathy.
“She also said she tried to protect Amanda,” Crystal added, suggesting that Kyle may have taken a more supportive stance behind the scenes than what was fully visible on screen.
Crystal went on to explain that Kyle felt she made a genuine effort to welcome Amanda into the group.
“And I said, ‘I know,’” Crystal continued. “We were talking about her being sort of the OG that welcomes newbies. It’s like on her to welcome newbies. But she said, ‘I really tried with Amanda. I really worked hard.’”
Kyle has long been viewed as a central figure within the RHOBH cast, often playing a key role in integrating new personalities into the group. That context makes her reported comments about Amanda particularly notable, especially as tensions around Amanda have continued to escalate.
Reunion Fallout Still Driving Conversation
Crystal’s comments come as fallout from the latest RHOBH reunion continues to ripple across the Bravo world.
During the reunion, Amanda became a focal point of discussion as cast members raised questions about her business and public persona. At the same time, Kyle also made headlines for comments about Dorit Kemsley’s financial situation, with Erika Jayne echoing similar concerns.
Crystal addressed that moment as well, acknowledging how uncomfortable those conversations can be — even when there may be truth behind them.
“I’m like, ‘Whoa,’” Crystal said. “They’re all facts, but it stings. It’s also life — this is reality, and the economy is really rough.”
She added that being part of the “Housewives” world comes with pressure that viewers may not fully understand.
“I think people don’t really realize the pressure there is to keep up with the Joneses,” Crystal explained.
A More Nuanced Dynamic Behind the Scenes
Perhaps most notable is the contrast between what viewers saw on screen and what Crystal says Kyle expressed privately.
While the first part of the reunion leaned heavily into criticism and confrontation, Kyle’s reported comments suggest a more layered dynamic — one where effort, expectation, and perception all play a role in how relationships unfold within the group.
Crystal also pointed out that timing may have contributed to the tension, noting that Amanda had just wrapped a major project before stepping into the group dynamic, which can make navigating those interactions even more difficult.
“It’s like you haven’t fought it out yet, but it’s still uncomfortable,” she said.
As the conversation around Amanda Frances continues, Crystal’s account offers a reminder that not every relationship — or reaction — is as straightforward as it may appear on camera.
“The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” air Thursdays on Bravo.
