Becca Tilley never planned to make her virginity a storyline. Turns out a hot mic had other ideas.
The two-time “Bachelor” fan favorite is opening up again about one of the most talked-about parts of her time on the show. In a recent podcast interview, Tilley reflected on why she chose to share something so personal and what she hoped other people would take from it.
“I grew up very Christian conservative,” Tilley said. “It was, like, ‘You don’t chase men, they come to you.’ Nondenominational. My family is not super intense.”
That upbringing shaped a decision she had made for herself, one she fully intended to keep private when she stepped into the mansion. “I didn’t go on ‘The Bachelor’ wanting to talk about my virginity,” she said. “I was never going to talk about it because I didn’t want it to be my storyline. I was like, ‘This is something that I’ve chosen for myself. I don’t need it to be this thing that people have an opinion on.'”
How Becca Tilley’s Secret Accidentally Came Out on Camera
It did not stay private for long. On Chris Soules’ Season 19, fellow contestant Ashley Iaconetti, had also opened up about being a virgin. Tilley was simply trying to comfort her when the secret slipped out. “I totally forgot I had a microphone on, I had seven cameras on me, and I go, ‘I’m a virgin too,'” she recalled. “That became my whole storyline.”
Rather than fight it, Tilley tried to turn the moment into something bigger. “I feel like there were people who made the same choice,” she said. “And I wanted them to see that you could be confident and sure and know your worth and make that decision for yourself and that would be okay.”
As for Soules, Tilley said his reaction could not have been better. “He was very respectful and I never once felt like it was a thing.”
Where Becca Tilley Is Now
Life looks very different for Tilley these days and she has never seemed happier. After keeping her relationship with singer Hayley Kiyoko private for four years, the two went public in 2022. The couple became one of Bachelor Nation’s most beloved couples. Kiyoko proposed in Mallorca, Spain in July 2025 and Tilley proposed right back five months later in Kyoto, Japan.
From a hot mic moment on a reality dating show to a double engagement story, Tilley’s journey has taken some unexpected turns. And now she is reminding Bachelor Nation exactly why so many people connected with her in the first place.
