Team Adam – Jaali Boyd vs. Jared Shoemaker
Adam said they are so different, but that’s why they are paired together. For Jaali, she is singing “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Fergie. She said she relates to the song, which Adam told her to work out. For Jared, he is singing “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde” by Travis Tritt.
Jared Shoemaker – This guy has been impressing me. His Voice Battles performance was stellar. I thought he had a great audition, but then he knocked it out of the park for the Battles. He kept it going tonight, as this song was perfect for his voice, and he sounded great.
Jaali Boyd – Jaali has a different kind of voice. She has this tone to her voice, which totally works on this song. She has that deeper voice. Jaali is pretty solid on this one and surprised me. I really enjoyed it.
Coaches’ Feedback: Kelly said she loves both of their voices. John said he loves the tone of Jared’s voice, and he is a fan of Jaali, and he would pick her. Adam said Jaali maximized the potential and gave the best of that song. Jared knows who he wants to be as an artist.
Results: Adam picked Jared as the winner of this Knockout, which means Jaali Boyd has been eliminated.
Team Legend – Grace Humphries vs. KJ Willis
John said he’s excited to see what both of them will do tonight. For KJ, he’s singing “I’ll Make Love to You” by Boyz II Men. John said he loves it, as this is our generation, and connecting it to his generation. John said it felt like he was reciting it and not feeling the lyrics. For Grace, she is singing “I Don’t Want to Wait” by Paula Cole. CeeLo said her voice was phenomenal and effortless.
Grace Humphries – She does really well on this song choice. It fits her voice really well.
KJ Willis – From that note from John to this performance, KJ listened, and he listened well. KJ was feeling those lyrics. He hit some huge notes. He was singin’ on this one, and it was so, so good.
Coaches’ Feedback: Adam said he so buys into Grace’s world. Adam said the answer is yes. John said they are quite different singers. They both did well in their lane. KJ gave his best performance of the competition today. Grace’s song choice was perfect for her.
Results: John picked KJ as the winner of this Knockout, which means Grace was eliminated on “The Voice” season 29.
Team Kelly – Jonah Mayor vs. Mikenley Brown
For Jonah, he picks “You’ll Be In My Heart” by Phil Collins. He said “Tarzan” was his safe space growing up, so he relates to this song. Kelly said such a pretty voice. She said less is more, and picking the vocal moments to get big on. For Mikenley, she sings “Pink Pony Club” by Chappell Roan. She said she relates to this song and felt like an outsider. Kelly said she was locked in, rehearsed everything, and was ready.
Mikenley Brown – Her voice has a different tone to it. It works so well on this song choice. She sounds really good. I think this is a popular song, so she was good at picking it for that. She did a very good job.
Jonah Mayor – I think he was made to sing this song. He almost looks like Tarzan, right? His voice is good, and he hits some great notes along the way. It’s not over-the-top, but he hits some big notes during the performance, and I am impressed.
Coaches’ Feedback: Adam said he likes Jonah and his character. He said he is a big fan of Mikenley’s voice. John said that Jonah is very gifted. He loves Mikenley’s song, and she took some liberties with the melody. Kelly said Jonah’s passion is infectious, and he is really special. She said no one is like Mikenley. She goes to these places that not many artists go, which sets her apart.
Results: Kelly picks Mikenley as the winner, which means Jonah has been eliminated.
The All-Star Showdown
“The Voice” season 29 coaches have each brought back two fan-favorite artists to compete in this showdown. The coach that wins the most points during these head-to-head showdowns will get an extra artist in the Voice Finale next week. The returning artists are:
- Team Legend: Maelyn Jarmon (Season 16 champion) and Renzo (Season 27 finalist)
- Team Kelly: Jake Hoot (Season 17 winner) and Girl Named Tom (Season 21 winners)
- Team Adam: Javier Colon (Season 1 winner) and Jordan Smith (Season 9 winner)
CeeLo Green is back in attendance, as he is judging this round.
Girl Named Tom vs. Renzo
Kelly picks first, as she picked Girl Named Tom to perform first. She then chooses to battle Team Legend, who picks Renzo to perform. For Girl Named Tom, they will perform “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas.
Girl Named Tom starts things out. Their harmonies are so darn good. This was a strong song choice for them, and it’s going to be hard to beat. Kelly said her arm hairs are growing, and she has goosebumps everywhere.
Renzo is singing “Dream On” by Aerosmith. This song was a great choice for Renzo, also. He nailed this one and those notes, man. How does he go that high?
Coaches’ Feedback: Adam said the things that both of those performances did were great. It’s why we love music. Girl Named Tom, that was mindblowing. What a cool concert we got to see now. Kelly said Renzo did the Steven Tyler thing, but he loved it. Girl Named Tom, there’s been nothing like you, and so breathtaking what you do. John said Girl Named Tom has perfect harmonies. Renzo hit a higher note today than he did in the competition.
Results: CeeLo picks Girl Named Tom as the winner of this matchup on “The Voice” season 29!
Maelyn Jarmon vs. Jordan Smith
John said he picked her as his all-star because he knows he can count on her to knock it out of the park every performance. She performs “Fields of Gold” by Sting, which was her Blind Audition song. Maelyn has such a solid voice. She hits some amazing notes along the way. Her voice is just soft, but powerful.
Adam said Jordan is his ringer, so he can count on him for a win. For his performance, he is performing “Chandelier” by Sia, which was also his Blind Audition song. I mean, Jordan is amazing. He hits so many good notes along the way. He has such a range in his voice. Jordan puts on a stellar performance, especially after such a strong performance from Maelyn.
Coaches’ Feedback: Kelly said they are both masters at being vocalists. John said this show exists for artists like both of them. Adam said you can tell how much time and effort Maelyn puts into her preparation. What Jordan has is somewhere in the heavens; it’s really beautiful.
Results: CeeLo said he loves them both, and this is difficult for him. He picks Maelyn as the winner, so 1 point for Team Legend.
Javier Colon vs. Jake Hoot
If Jake wins this for Team Kelly, then she wins the Showdown and gets the extra artist in the Finale. Javier is the OG Voice, the winner of Season 1. It’s been 10 years, and he hasn’t aged a bit. For his performance, he is singing “Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper, which was his Blind Audition song. The runs he puts into this one is so good. He also has that wide range in his voice, and Javier is bringing it tonight.
For Jake, he is performing “Desperado.” He is excited to be back on the show and to perform this song again. After Javier, I thought this would be a hard one for Jake. However, this song is perfect for his voice. He is so strong with this performance, so good luck, CeeLo, picking a winner!
Coaches’ Feedback: John said he is the best country male vocalist the show’s ever had. Javier’s voice is so unique. Adam said Jake is the real deal. Hearing Javier sing is so much fun. Kelly said Javier’s voice is such a gift. Jake is one of the best country singers on the show, and he is a gentleman.
Results: CeeLo picks Jake as the winner, which means Team Kelly gets a second point. That means she gets a second artist in the Voice Finale next week.
