‘The Voice’ Coaches Excited To Hit New Mic Drop Button

This year has seen many changes announced with “The Voice,” and it’s nice to see the longtime singing competition mixing things up. One change gave host Carson Daly his own secret weapon, called the Carson Callback. This allowed him to give an artist a second chance by letting them re-enter the Blind Auditions if they didn’t get any chair turns.

But two significant changes were announced for the coaches. One was the Block button, and the other the Mic Drop Button. While viewers witnessed the power of the Block button during the Blind Auditions, they now have the chance to see the coaches use the Mic Drop button.

Mic Drop Feature Will Lead to One Artist Performing at the New Year’s Rose Parade

The new Mic Drop feature sounded truly exciting when it was previously unveiled. During the Knockouts round, the coaches choose one artist from their team whose performance rises above the rest. Each coach picks their “Mic Drop” contestant. Then, it’s up to viewers to vote on which of the four will perform in the New Year’s Day Rose Parade. The coaches are both excited and anxious about the new feature.

“Someone could really step up from the Battles and really tear the roof off, and then it’s undeniable, and you have to use your Mic Drop,” Niall told NBC Insider.

“My Mic Drop will be used for the most incredible performance on my team,’ Michael explained.

“I’m anxious to see who’s gonna get that top-notch performance that deserves it,” Snoop Dogg said. “Because I got a couple people that could get it, but they just gotta prove it.”

‘The Voice’ Coaches Dished out Drama & Revenge With the Block Button

While we finally get to see the Mic Drop button in action, viewers got to see the Carson Callback and Block buttons pretty quickly. The Block button allowed each coach to put a ‘block’ on another coach during a contestant’s Blind Audition. This meant that the contestant was unable to choose the coach that had been ‘blocked.’

Snoop Dogg was the first to use the button in the season premiere. He and Reba both turned for Mindy Miller, who sang Lainey Wilson’s “Wild Flowers and Wild Horses.” After realizing that she was blocked, Reba threatened to withhold her Skittle from Snoop for “stealing” Mindy.

However, Reba then used the Block button herself to prevent Snoop from taking Jazz Mackenzie. Unfortunately, Jazz turned all four chairs with her performance of Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” and she ended up choosing Michael Bublé instead of Reba.

Carson’s Callback Helped One Singer Land a Spot on Team Reba

Carson Daly used his new power, the Carson Callback, on Ryan Mitchell, after the singer didn’t get any chair turns. While Niall told him that he loved his voice, he thought his singing was too “stylized.” The other coaches had their reasons for not turning, as well. But Carson wasn’t having it.

“We rarely get a cool alt-rock artist like you on the show anymore,” Carson told Ryan. “In 28 seasons, I’ve seen coaches let great singers like yourself fall through the cracks sometimes, and I’ve never been able to do anything about it until right now. So, Ryan, this is the Carson Callback Card. You’re just too good to let go.”

The following day, he returned, showing more range with Britney Spears’ “Hit Me Baby One More Time.” After getting a chair turn from Reba, he became part of her team.
