Carson Daly Has a New Twist on ‘The Voice’

For 27 seasons, Carson Daly has served as the steady host of “The Voice,” guiding viewers through the highs and lows without ever shaping the results. That changes this fall as the NBC singing competition introduces the Carson Callback, a new twist that hands Daly unexpected power.

For the first time in the show’s 14-year run, the longtime host will be able to bring back one singer who leaves the Blind Auditions without a chair turn, giving them a rare second chance to impress the coaches.

How the Carson Callback Works

The new rule means Daly can rescue one artist from elimination and send them back into the Blind Auditions pool. While full details remain under wraps, Daly explained the motivation in a September 15 promo:

“Sometimes I see great singers fall through the cracks, and I’ve never been able to do anything about it — until right now.”

The twist immediately caught the coaches’ attention. “What is happening, Carson Daly?” asked Michael Bublé, who enters Season 28 as the two-time defending champion.

How Will It Work: Can It Change the Fate of Contestants?

The Carson Callback will give Carson Daly a rare chance to shake up “The Voice” by saving one singer who fails to turn a chair during the Blind Auditions.

For the first time in the show’s history, the longtime host can grant a contestant a second shot on stage, sending them back into the audition pool with another song and another chance to impress the coaches.

Daly will only get to use the power once per season, making his decision a high-stakes wildcard that could dramatically change the competition. Fans are delighted with this twist.

Michael Bublé has yet to lose a season since taking a red chair, but his undefeated streak faces new pressure as he returns alongside veteran coaches Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan, and Reba McEntire.

This time, Bublé also has to navigate Carson Daly’s new wildcard power, which could shift the momentum of the Blind Auditions. Still, the panel sees Daly as more than just a host. In fact, Bublé told TODAY that the group affectionately calls him “Dad.”

“We’re literally family on this show, it’s hilarious,” Bublé said. “Carson’s our dad. Carson’s Dad! Carson’s our amazing dad.”

When to Watch the New Season

“The Voice” kicks off Season 28 on Monday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, with episodes streaming the following day on Peacock.

The addition of the Carson Callback promises to raise the stakes from the very first Blind Audition, delivering more second chances, fiercer battles, and plenty of surprises for fans tuning in!
