Meri Brown Stands up for Herself As Kody Brown Ends His Apology Tour in Utah

TLC’s “Sister Wives” has focused on Kody Brown’s apology tour, as he meets with his former wives to apologize and seek forgiveness for his actions after they chose to leave him between 2022 and 2023.

The last leg of Kody’s tour takes him to Parowan, Utah, where he will meet with one of his former wives, Meri Brown. However, both Kody and Meri have no idea what to expect, with Meri making it clear that she has no intention of backing down to her former husband.

Kody Brown has now apologized to both Janelle Brown and Christine Brown Woolley, and it went better than expected. Still, meeting with Christine alongside her husband, David Woolley, made for an understandably awkward moment. Despite the tension, the group later went to race cars around a track together, which helped lighten the mood.

After he met with Christine and David, Kody was going to head to Parowan, Utah, to meet with Meri Brown. Meri was Kody’s first wife, having been together for 35 years before their spiritual marriage ended in early 2023.

According to People, Meri shared her feelings about meeting Kody with her friends Jenn and Amber. After seeing him at Coyote Pass without saying a word to each other, she admitted that she was “very guarded.”

“There have been times when I’ve had conversations with Kody and I definitely see the sincerity. And then there’s times when I’m like, are you just saying this? Is this lip service? And why?” Meri told the cameras.

She added, “I don’t know what Kody I’m going to get because I don’t know Kody anymore.”

Meri made it clear that she has no interest in clashing with Kody, particularly after he criticized her friends and following their contentious divorce.

“I’m going to go into this conversation with Kody with very strong boundaries,” Meri said. “His energy [expletive] with my energy. It just does.”

Meanwhile, Kody shared in a confessional that his strategy going into his conversation with Meri was making sure it didn’t “escalate.”

In the Dec. 21 episode, Janelle FaceTimes Meri to discuss getting a spiritual divorce from Kody. It was something that Meri asked of Kody to get the closure she needed when the couple separated.

Speaking to Meri, Janelle admits that getting a spiritual divorce will mean a lot to her, sharing that she wants to “end that covenant in the appropriate way.”

She later adds in a confessional, “Look, I’ve told Kody … his attitude has kind of been like, ‘Well I don’t know why you’re doing it, but okay, whatever.”

“Kody and I were married for 30 years. It seems kinda disrespectful to be like, we’re not married anymore, done.. I’m seeking to close this relationship in a respectful and appropriate way,” she added.

Janelle, who revealed that she felt intimidated by church leadership after not attending for more than a decade, asked Meri if she could help her by reaching out to them on her behalf.

Meri even encourages Janelle to text Kody to ask for a spiritual divorce.

Last season, Meri discussed her process of asking the church for a spiritual separation. “I was granted what is called in our church a release, which is basically the equivalent of a divorce. It was a very, very hard conversation, hard meaning heartbreaking, because this is not what I wanted to do. This is not what I intended when I married Kody.”

As fans may recall, Meri was legally married to Kody before divorcing him in 2014 so he could marry his fourth wife, Robyn Brown, and adopt her three older children.
