The “Dawson’s Creek” reunion turned into an emotional night on Broadway as fans rose to their feet at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Monday, September 22. Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, and other beloved stars came together for a live reading of the show’s pilot, instantly transporting audiences back to Capeside.
The crowd erupted with cheers as Williams, 45, Holmes, 46, and Jackson, 47, seamlessly slipped into their iconic roles of Jen, Joey, and Pacey.
EntertainmentNowAdding to the heartwarming nostalgia, Jackson and Holmes shared a touching moment during the cast’s final bows, holding hands and leaning on one another.
The sweet gesture brought fans to tears and reignited memories of their unforgettable on-screen romance.
James Van Der Beek Sends Video Message
EntertainmentNowAlthough James Van Der Beek could not attend due to illness, his presence was still deeply felt at the reunion. The theater paused to play a heartfelt video message from the actor, who is currently battling stage III colon cancer.
“I can’t believe I’m not there,” Van Der Beek, 48, said in the clip. “I can’t believe I don’t get to hug my cast mates, my beautiful cast in person, and I just wanted to stand on that stage and thank every single person in this theater for being here tonight. From the cast to the crew to everybody who donated their time and has been so generous. And especially every single last one of you. You’re the best fans in the world. Thank you for coming.”
He then revealed that Lin-Manuel Miranda would be stepping in as Dawson Leery for the live reading, joking that his kids saw the Broadway icon as “an upgrade.”

A Reunion for a Cause
The reunion was more than a nostalgic night; it carried a deeper meaning. Organized as a fundraiser for F Cancer, the event served as both a celebration of James Van Der Beek and a heartfelt tribute to his ongoing fight.
Cast members Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, Kerr Smith, John Wesley Shipp, Mary-Margaret Humes, Meredith Monroe, Busy Philipps, Mary Beth Peil, and Nina Repeta all reunited on stage for the special evening.
“The first phone call I got was from James himself,” Humes shared. “He told me that Michelle was spearheading this, and it was a way for us to actually have a reunion, all of us together, and celebrate James’ life. Together as a TV family, we just thought we needed to be there for him and rally around him.”
