With the unexpected revelation that Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban separated at the beginning of the summer, many have been trying to figure out when the cracks began appearing. One interview with the former “American Idol” coach from five months before Kidman filed for divorce is now getting a second look.
Urban discussed with “Entertainment Tonight” the sacrifices that come with being a touring musician. She tossed out a couple of options: financial and physical sacrifices. Urban threw out his own: “relationship sacrifices,” he said. Now that everyone knows about what was to come, many are wondering if there was more to those words than they initially realized.
Keith Urban Talked A lot About the Toll Touring Takes on Life
During the May interview with Cassie DiLaura, Urban talked about his new country music reality show, “The Road.” He’d spent a month as the headliner for the show, which was created by Taylor Sheridan and executive-produced by Blake Shelton. He also discussed his upcoming world tour, “High and Alive,” and the toll that touring takes on one’s life.
“It’s either a calling or it’s not,” he said. “You know it internally, there’s nobody that can ultimately tell you that, show you that, lead you to that. It’s just an internal voice that you have that’s like, ‘This is what I’m meant to do.'”
“So, when you wake up on a tour bus at 3:30 in the morning and you’re in the middle of nowhere,” Urban continued, “it’s freezing cold, you’re sick as a dog, and you’ve got a meet and greet and have to perform that night. And you’re lonely and missing your family. When you’re sitting in that bunk, crying, going, ‘Why am I doing this?’ The only answer can be, ‘Well, this is what I do.’ And you just do it. At the end of the day it’s just got to be your purpose, it really does.”
There Were Subtle Signs that Urban and Kidman’s Marriage Was Unraveling
During their marriage, Urban and Kidman always appeared to be madly in love. They supported each other’s endeavors, yet they kept much of their relationship private. However, many of Urban’s interviews from the past year have gotten more scrutiny since he and Kidman split up, revealing trouble under the surface.
During an interview with Ryan Seacrest at the end of July, the conversation turned to Kidman. Seacrest asked how the two managed their busy schedules. Urban was polite, but didn’t offer up much. “Life is in session,” was his short response.

I think they are 2 good people who genuinely cared about each other. (and probably still do). But their careers pulled them in different directions- too much time apart!
Yes. It’s sad when a marriage ends because of reasons like this, especially when they have children. However, maybe staying together would have just made things worse.
