Ryan Seacrest Shares Heartbreaking Family Loss: ‘You Will Live in Our Hearts Forever’

Ryan Seacrest is mourning the loss of his beloved dad, who passed away this week following a battle with prostate cancer. The “American Idol” host shared the news with fans, remembering his dad fondly.

Ryan Seacrest Shares News of His Father’s Death in Emotional Post

On October 31, Seacrest took to Instagram to share the sad news about his dad, Gary Seacrest.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my loving father peacefully passed away earlier this week,” he wrote. “My mom, sister and I have peace knowing he is in a better place and free of any pain or suffering. We are heartbroken.”

Seacrest continued, “He was a devoted husband for 56 years, an incredible Papa to Flora, and my best friend.”

“Dad you will live in our hearts forever. I love you. Ryan,” he added.

During his July 21 radio show, Seacrest broke down in tears as he shared his dad’s brave battle.

“I haven’t shared this on the air because it has been very private for me and my family, as it was something that was extremely hard to see with my father,” Seacrest said. “I have a very close relationship with my father and my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer years ago.”

He revealed that treatment was unsuccessful and his dad ended up in the ICU while he was hosting “American Idol.”

“It didn’t get better, it got worse and it spread,” the host said. “It didn’t go well for him. He caught pneumonia.”

Seacrest immediately flew to Atlanta, recalling “a life or death conversation” about “an emergency surgery.” Ultimately, they decided against surgery and Seacrest stayed in Atlanta to support his family.

At the time, the “Idol” host explained his dad’s long battle and his desire to leave the house. Seacrest fought back tears when he shared that his mom and dad sent him pictures of them sitting at the beach.

“I watched them over the weekend send photos of smiling and happiness and being together. They’ve been married for over 55 years. And they’ve got each other. And his pneumonia is gone, but his cancer is not. And so we have to go back into another treatment and fight this cancer. And it is just, it’s difficult,” Seacrest added.

Fans Shared Messages of Love & Support

Seacrest’s fans flooded the comments section with their condolences.

“Omg, Ryan and family, I am so very sorry for your devastating loss of your dad and papa. 😢 💔 May his memory be for a blessing,” one fan wrote. “Thinking of you all!!”

Another person shared, “Deepest condolences Ryan & family. My heart hurts as I listened to you this morning. So so sorry. Much Love.”

“I’m so sorry that you lost your Dad, Ryan. Prayers for God to comfort you all,” another fan commented.

“Ryan, I’m so sorry for your loss,” one fan wrote. “Deepest sympathy to you and your family … he was great man.”

  2. Ryan, It’s a terrible thing to loose a parent. Right now your whole family will be united in grief. Focus on your Mom, and know that you brought joy into your Dads life. In time memories will be a comfort but we were never created with any emotion to deal with a death of a loved one. So very sorry for the loss you’re suffering! Deepest sympathies, Linda Greene
