“The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” and “Dancing with the Stars” alum Whitney Leavitt has announced her return to Broadway. Beginning Dec. 1, Leavitt will portray Sandra Dee in the Bobby Darin biomusical “Just in Time” at at the Circle in the Square Theatre.
Whitney Leavitt Rocks Broadway
Leavitt made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in “Chicago” earlier this year. An initial six-week run starting in February extended to three months, which included a stint starring alongside her former “Dancing with the Stars” partner Mark Ballas.
During Leavitt’s run, “Chicago” achieved its highest weekly box office gross in its 29-year history.
“I’m going to tell you right now, that cast and crew, it was a group effort to be able to do that because we all pushed really hard to market it,” Leavitt told PEOPLE. “How can we find creative ways to get people to come and see the show? I’m so happy I got to be a part of that.”
Coming Back to Broadway “Just in Time”
In December, Leavitt will return to Broadway in “Just in Time” for a six-week engagement through Jan. 10, 2027, although she has not ruled out the opportunity for an extension.
“A lot of times you have a runtime, and then you get to decide, ‘Do you want to stay or do you want to go?’ I think it’s too hard to tell right now. I don’t know what’s going to be going on in my life. But I’ll for sure at least be there for six weeks,” she told PEOPLE.
Leavitt will be starring opposite Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan, who portrays Bobby Darin. However, Leavitt’s journey with “Just in Time” started with a visit from Jonathan Groff, who originated the role of Darin.
“One night, the ‘Chicago’ stage manager tells me, ‘Oh, Jonathan Groff is here’… that immediately put a huge stressor on me, but it also motivated me. I wasn’t able to see him after the show, so I was like, ‘Okay, let me go see you in Just in Time.’ Phenomenal. Love watching that man perform,” Leavitt said.
She eventually landed an audition for Sandra Dee, telling PEOPLE, “We did it, we studied hard, and here we are. And I cannot wait to be a part of that show.”
Telling Bobby Darin’s Story
Developed and directed by Tony Award winner Alex Timbers, “Just in Time” is a recent Broadway hit. Since its opening in April 2025, the jukebox musical is the only one of the 2024-2025 season to have recouped its investment.
With a book by Warren Leight and Isaac Oliver, “Just in Time” features a score of Darin’s classic hits, like “Splish Splash” and “Dream Lover.” The musical chronicles Darin’s rise from teen idol to global sensation.
The cast currently includes Olivia Holt as Connie Francis and Debbie Gravitte as Polly Walden. The ensemble and standby cast features Joe Barbara, Emily Bergl, Lance Roberts, Caesar Samayoa, Christine Cornish, Julia Grondin, Valeria Yamin, Jaime Foord, Tari Kelly, Matt Magnusson, Jeffrey Schecter and Tristen Buettel.
Tickets are on sale now for the newest block of tickets through Feb. 7, 2027.
