When Bindi Irwin announced that her family was moving to Los Angeles to support her brother, Robert Irwin, while he competed on “Dancing With the Stars,” fans were ecstatic. The US fell in love with Bindi when she competed on the show in Season 21 and won the Mirrorball Trophy alongside Derek Hough.
Seeing her loudly cheering her brother in the audience each week was a full-circle moment for the siblings. When she was absent for the long-awaited “Wicked Night,” she quickly explained why. Her daughter, Grace, had a cold, so they’d be watching from home. But her absence the following week alarmed fans. She reassured fans that she was okay, but unfortunately, an illness had hit her whole family.
Bindi Irwin Loses Voice as Her Family Battles Illness
Shortly before the “Halloween Night” episode of “Dancing With the Stars” aired, Bindi posted an adorable photo of Grace, her husband Chandler, and herself. While her photo was happy, the caption that went with it wasn’t.
“Chandler, Grace and I all got a bug and I’ve completely lost my voice now…so we will be cheering (quietly) from our living room for Robert and Witney on [‘Dancing With the Stars’], Bindi revealed. “They have an incredible dance for Halloween week, beyond proud of their hard work and dedication.”
She then reminded fans to vote for Robert and to remember that “voting starts early at 5pm for everyone on the west coast!”
Robert and Bindi’s mom, Terri, commented, “Sending get well vibes!” True to her word that they were watching from home, Bindi posted to the “Dancing With the Stars” Instagram page after Robert and Witney Carson’s dance, “Go Robert and Witney!!!!”
Robert & Witney Struck Gold, Earning Their First 10s
Despite the absence of his biggest supporter, Robert had a great night. He and Witney danced an Argentine Tango to a spooky rendition of the Eurythmics’ classic “Sweet Dreams are Made of This.” They also received their first 10s — one from Carrie Ann Inaba and one from Bruno Tonioli.
“You know what I really, really like?” Bruno told Robert. “It’s the style. It really had that tension in tensions. Enticement, entrapment that you remember in the 40s. They used to [have] this film noir, that you could not take your eyes off the stars. You did that tonight.”
Afterward, while talking with Julianne Hough in the Sky Box, he enthusiastically thanked fans for “coming on the journey with me.” He also sent out a message to Elaine Hendrix, who was in the hospital that night. “Feel better, Elaine!” Robert said to the camera. Robert, no doubt, gained even more fans with his humble attitude and compassion towards a fellow contestant.
