Actor Dax Shepard has shared a touching story about how the AA meeting he attends, and was frequented by the late Eric Dane, paid an emotional tribute to the former “Grey’s Anatomy” star during a recent session.
Dane passed away in February following a battle with ALS, with the actor tragically dying less than a year after he publicly announced he was suffering with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. His official cause of death has since been revealed as respiratory failure related to his ALS. The television and film actor left behind a family that includes his wife and two daughters.
Dax Shepard Details How AA Meeting Honored Eric Dane
During an episode of “Armchair Expert” podcast, Shepard opened up about an emotional moment he had shared with other members of his AA meeting group. Discussing the event with co-host Monica Padman, Shepard told the story of what happened at the meeting.
Shepard began by saying, “So, we had a very, very, very sweet meeting last night… Kind of in memory of our friend.”
“We don’t ever have women at the meeting,” he added. “It’s a stag meeting and a woman joined and she was awesome. She goes, ‘I don’t know how all of you got through your shares without crying, but I’m going to be crying through my entire share, and I’m gonna cry for all of you.’ And we were like, ‘Well, thank you. Someone needs to.’ That was really great.”
The pair became close after both attended the same AA meeting. Dane has previously spoken about his addiction to both alcohol and prescription painkillers, explaining that he spent much of his time on “Grey’s Anatomy” struggling with abuse of both.
Eric Dane Completed His ‘Euphoria’ Scenes Before His Death
Although he is probably best known for his appearances on the medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” Dane more recently had a significant role in the Zendaya-led teen drama “Euphoria.”
Dane’s death came before the premiere of the third season but it has since been revealed that he completed filming for his part in season three before passing. Shooting for his scenes took place last year, not long after Dane had first publicly revealed that he had been diagnosed with ALS.
In the show, Dane portrays Cal Jacobs, the father of Jacob Elordi’s character Nate Jacobs. He has a complex relationship with those close to him and leads a double life with a secret dark history.
