Taylor Cole and Ryan McPartlin never imagined their 2025 Hallmark rom-com “Double Scoop” would be Patrick Muldoon’s last movie released before his death. But they, along with the beloved actor’s many fans and celebrity friends, were shocked to learn of his sudden passing at age 57 on April 19, 2026.
Muldoon, who was best known for his roles on “Days of Our Lives” and “Melrose Place,” spent much of his time in recent years behind the scenes as a producer, but still took on fun roles, like playing bad guy Everett in “Double Scoop,” which premiered in August 2025 and is available to stream via Hallmark+.
Taylor Cole Calls Patrick Muldoon’s Passing a ‘Heartbreaking Loss’
In “Double Scoop,” Muldoon played Everett, the head of a NYC ad agency who pits McPartlin’s character against a fellow ad exec to vie for the open vice president position at the company.
McPartlin told EntertainmentNow of Muldoon, “He was electric on set and in real life! His energy was infectious, and he was one of those guys that I immediately felt like we were going to spend a lot more time together on and off set. He had that rare ability to engage with everyone and make them feel special.”
Although Cole didn’t appear onscreen with Muldoon, he made a big impression on her behind the scenes, she told EntertainmentNow.
“He had the most energy of anyone I’ve ever met,” Cole said. “We didn’t have any scenes together, but you knew the days he was on set because everyone was smiling a little more. Just a heartbreaking loss at such a young age.”
Back in August, Muldoon promoted “Double Scoop” via social media, sharing how much fun he had filming with McPartlin, Cole, and Elisa Donovan, who played a rival ad agency owner and former employee.
Muldoon wrote at the time, “Happy to be a part of Double Scoop coming up end of the month on @hallmarkchannel !!! Love ❤️ to work with @hybridproductionsllc – and what a blast with @RyanMcpartlin @taylorquinncole @Reddonovan and beautiful job by our director @petersullivan_director”
Ryan McPartlin Shared a Touching Tribute to Patrick Muldoon
Upon hearing of Muldoon’s death, McPartlin — who’s been filming the new series “Bosch: Start of Watch” and a new Great American Family Christmas movie — took a break from filming to share a touching tribute via social media, posting photos of them working together on “Double Scoop.”
Noting that he was “praying for his family,” McPartlin wrote in part, “What a shot of life Patrick Muldoon was! When he showed up on our Hallmark movie Double Scoop last year, he came ready to roll, wanting props and activities to really bring his character to life & made a small role into something really fun and impactful.”
Supporting cast member Meredith Watkins, who played a member of the ad agency Muldoon’s character owned, also posted a photo from the set, noting that Muldoon was “the first to give hugs and say ‘Let’s take a picture’ at the end of the day.”
Hybrid, the production company that filmed “Double Scoop” and 10 other rom-coms Muldoon appeared in, also shared a social media tribute to the actor.
“We at Hybrid are extremely saddened to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of a beloved friend and member of our Hybrid Film Family, Patrick Muldoon,” the company wrote. “He will be missed greatly not just for his talent, but for his kind heart and fun-loving nature. His charisma on camera was always apparent; his charisma off camera was just as bright—a shining light to all those lucky enough to have worked with him. While he lives forever on film, our love for him lives forever in our hearts. Rest in peace, friend.”
