Joanna Gaines Wants Her Kids Around the Table For a Big Meal
Chip and Joanna Gaines are the proud parents of five wonderful children, ranging from adulthood to their youngest, who is still in elementary school. Their children are: Drake, 21, Ella, 19, Duke, 17, Emmie, 16, and Crew, 7.
With Mother’s Day around the corner, Joanna Gaines opened up about her vision for the perfect celebration. She wants a full house with all her kids around the table.
“A perfect Mother’s Day for us is when everyone’s together,” the Magnolia Network star shared with PEOPLE. “When I think about some of our best memories as a family, I think about the table — all of us gathered around, laughing, listening, swapping stories. So much life is experienced and shared at the table, which is what makes it one of my favorite places in our home.”
Of course, a big family celebration calls for an excellent meal too.
“We have a big family, and we’re all there to celebrate each other, so everyone wants to lend a hand and play a part in making it a special day,” Joanna continued, adding that the perfect menu can put the perfect touch on any gathering.
“I also love that Mother’s Day falls in the spring because that’s when everything at the farm is in full bloom,” the mother of five added. “It’s colorful, it’s abundant, and that feels like such a sweet and profound coincidence — to be able to celebrate the beauty of motherhood when, all around, nature is just beaming.”
The Family Matriarch Ensures Her Children Appreciate Excellent Food
Although each of the Gaines family’s children enjoys hobbies of their own, they seem to have inherited their mother’s passion for cooking.
“My kids are all now in the season of life where they’re closer to leaving than they are staying,” Joanna told Delish in an interview last year. Her oldest child, Drake, lives an hour away from home and loves cooking with his girlfriend.
“They have these nights where they go all out and they cook 3-, 4-, or 5-course meals,” Joanna proudly shared about her son. “I mean, he still gets Whataburger, but I think the fact that he’s feeding himself—he’s making grilled chicken, he’s making steaks—he’s set for life.”
Chip and Joanna Gaines wanted to ensure each of their children knew how to cook. But while speaking with Delish, Joanna revealed her youngest, Crew, exudes culinary potential.
“He knows how to work a knife, he knows how to sauté,” the HGTV star continued. “When I’m cooking, he’s the one that’s just hanging by my hip, wanting to be a part of everything.”
