“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” icon Tim Curry was reportedly set to return in an expanded role in “Stream 2: Sudden Death” months before his heartbreaking passing.
Variety reported in June that the legendary actor was poised to take on a more integral role in the sequel, following his brief appearance in “Stream.” Sadly, Curry passed away before the planned return could happen.
Tim Curry’s Next Project Before His Passing
“Stream 2: Sudden Death” director Michael Leavy expressed his excitement about working with Curry on the sequel.
“Tim Curry is someone who has inspired generations of horror fans and filmmakers alike,” Leavy told Variety at the time. “From the beginning, we envisioned his character as part of a much larger story within the ‘Stream’ universe. The first film only scratched the surface, and we’re excited to bring him back in a bigger role that audiences will really respond to.”
Meanwhile, one of the sequel’s producers, Jason Leavy, called the experience of working with the “It” icon “surreal.”
“Having the opportunity to work with Tim Curry was already surreal, but knowing where this story was headed made it even more special,” he told the outlet. “His appearance in the original film was designed to plant the seeds for something bigger, and ‘Stream 2: Sudden Death’ finally allows us to start pulling back the curtain on a much larger scale.”
Tim Curry Passed Away at 80
GettyCurry, who had been battling serious health issues for years, passed away late Tuesday night at his Los Angeles home.
TMZ reported that the fire department was called to the residence earlier that night for a medical emergency, and that the actor was pronounced dead at the scene. Law enforcement reportedly said there’s no foul play suspected in the case.
In July 2012, the “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” actor suffered a near-fatal stroke that left him paralyzed. Curry revealed in his memoir, “Vagabond,” that he was getting a massage when the stroke occurred.
His masseur was the first to notice changes in his body and suggested he call 911. However, Curry initially refused.
“I probably owe my life to the fact that he ignored me, went with his instinct, and called an ambulance,” Curry wrote. “Even as they were loading me in, I still thought my masseur had overreacted, and that we were going through a ridiculous and unnecessary exercise.”
Tim Curry’s Health Issues Over the Years
GettyCurry was sedated and underwent an emergency craniectomy, where a portion of his skull was removed.
“Only after the surgery was completed was I informed that I had suffered a serious stroke, which sent blood clots to my brain, two of which had been removed,” the actor wrote in his memoir. “It turned out that my brain was inflamed enough, or filled with enough blood, that bone from my skull had to be removed and implanted into my abdomen to keep my brain, and me, alive.”
Eventually, Curry began rehabilitation, working on his speech, facial expressions, hand mobility and other abilities affected by the stroke.
