“Teen Mom 2” alum Jenelle Evans‘ eldest son, Jace Evans, is receiving help for his mental health after a terrifying incident involving his grandmother, Barbara Evans.
Jace Evans Was Admitted to a Mental Health Facility
Jace, 16, was admitted into a mental health facility late last month after an incident at his grandmother’s house, according to TMZ.
The outlet reported on Tuesday, March 10, that Barbara called 911 after Jace “pulled a gun on her” on February 27. Authorities responded to the North Carolina home for a “troubled teen disturbance.”
TMZ later explained that Jace—whom the MTV alum shares with ex Andrew Lewis—threatened to take his own life and his grandmother’s.
Jace is receiving help after being placed on an involuntary hold, though it remains unclear how long he will remain in care.
“At this time, we have no comment on the matter. We’re unable to discuss this issue because it involves confidential personal matters,” a rep for Jenelle told TMZ.
Jace Was Raised By His Grandmother
Jace was largely raised by his grandmother after the “16 & Pregnant” alum signed over custody of her infant son to her mother when she was still a teenager.
After getting her life in order, however, Jenelle took Barbara to court to regain custody of her eldest son.
The court battle dragged on for more than a decade, until 2023 when a judge finally signed off on a new custody agreement.
Jace moved in with his mom and her then-husband, David Eason. However, after numerous attempts to run away from home within the first few months of living with his mom, Jace ultimately returned to live with his grandmother.
Jenelle and David have since divorced and the former reality star relocated to Las Vegas with her two younger children: Son Kaiser, 11, whom she shares with ex-fiancé Nathan Griffith, and daughter Ensley, 9, whom she shares with Eason.
Barbara Evans Recently Suffered a Stroke
The beloved MTV alum suffered a terrifying stroke in October 2025.
After spending time in the hospital, Barbara was able to go home and was expected to make a full recovery at home. Jenelle, flew home to North Carolina to be by her mother’s side during her recovery.
When asked by a fan during an Instagram Story Q&A one week after news of her mother’s health scare broke, Jenelle said, “She’s doing better,” according to a screenshot shared by People.
