‘The Challenge’ Vet Celebrates a Big Win After a Harrowing Incident

Nelson Thomas of “The Challenge” is thriving after an accident led to his leg being amputated.

In a post shared on November 10, the MTV star celebrated finishing a 5K race with a prosthetic leg. In the picture, he’s seen wearing a green shirt, white athletic shorts, and a pair of Brooks sneakers, looking thrilled to be running.

“Proud to represent the limb loss community. The journey continues…” he wrote.

Thomas told a fan that he completed the race in about 39 minutes, but he was keeping time with his mom, who had joined him.

“Such an honor to meet you yesterday and so proud of your journey,” a fan gushed.

‘The Challenge’ Star Corey Wharton Also Supported Thomas’ First 5K

Aside from his mom, Thomas also had the support of his “Challenge” co-star and friend, Corey Wharton.

The vet shared an Instagram post of him standing by Thomas during the race, and wrote, “Let me just start off by saying I’m SO proud of this dude right here. I’m sure most of you know his story but he lost his leg two years ago and for him to be completing this 5K today was everything. Proud of you big dog.”

“Next year we said we wanna run the New York Marathon, that’s our goal and we’re gonna make it happen. This was my first time running any type of long distance or marathon, and the vibes & adrenaline kept us going, and now I see why people get addicted to it,” Wharton continued.

He added, “Also wanna thanks to everybody who came out and showed us support & some love. [It] means everything to us.”

Thomas Is Staying Positive After a Life-Altering Accident

Thomas, who was involved in a car crash in 2023, is trying to move on positively, despite undergoing multiple surgeries and rehabilitation.

After much deliberation and advice from others, he decided that amputation was the best route. “Walking through the hospital doors, I knew there was no turning back. It was the most frightening moment of my life,” he told CBS Austin.

Despite his initial challenges, Thomas is continuing to inspire others with his determination. “Every stride reminds me never to take this gift for granted. Back to running. Back in my element. I don’t know where this journey leads, but I’m ready for it,” he shared in a November 6 Instagram post.

Fans want to see Thomas return to “The Challenge,” with one writing, “Get it let’s go!!! NELLY T FOR #42.”
