Has Brooke Shields watched the new Michael Jackson biopic starring the King of Pop’s nephew, Jaafar? TMZ got the answer to that question on Tuesday, April 28 when they caught up for a quick chat with the “Mother of the Bride” star.
In the clip, one of the outlet’s reporters asks the 60-year-old, “How are you?” before another jumps in to say, “Did you already watch Michael Jackson’s movie?” Shields replies, “I have not yet,” seeming to indicate she possibly plans to watch it in the future.
The iconic beauty, who was dressed in all black, then cheerfully agreed to take a picture with a fan before complimenting his camera and hopping into her car.
Brooke Shields Previously Detailed Her Friendship With Michael Jackson
In an 2014 interview with Larry King, Shields reflected on her friendship with the superstar. “I was 13, I think, when I first met him, and we were fans of each other’s. We just immediately hit it off. We laughed so hard,” she recalled. She implied one of the key’s to their friendship was her lack of an ulterior motive.
She explained, “I didn’t – I wasn’t trying to get a music career. I wasn’t trying to get anything from him. And we just started hanging out.”
She added that her friend “could never really trust a lot of people around him,” and that he was shocked when he heard about her plans to do things such as attending regular school and getting married in an attempt to experience a “normal life.”
In a prior interview featured in a compilation shared by the Michael Jackson fan YouTube page The Detail, the “Pretty Baby” star mused on what she and the “Rock With You” crooner had in common. “I think because we grew up in the same business, and we had similar upbringings in the sense that we were – you know, we had to begin in this business at a very young age. We learned a sense of – we had defense mechanisms that we had built up. And I think once we met each other, we realized that we didn’t really have to be wary of one another. That enabled us to build a friendship on a very different level.”
What Did Brooke Shields Say at Michael Jackson’s Funeral?
GettyAt Michael’s memorial service at the Staples Center on July 7, 2009, Shields fondly recalled the icon. At one point, she said, “Whenever we were out and there would be a picture taken, there would be a caption of some kind. And the caption usually said something like ‘an odd couple’ or ‘an unlikely pair.’ But to us, it was the most natural and easiest of friendships.”
Later in the speech, she told a funny anecdote about Michael’s fun-loving side when they pulled a hilarious stunt before Elizabeth Taylor’s eighth and final wedding to Larry Fortensky in 1991. “I remember it was the night before Elizabeth Taylor‘s wedding, and he called me prior and asked if I would join him. He didn’t want to be alone for all the festivities.” She said the night before the big event, she and Michael tried to sneak in and get the first glimpse of the wedding gown. Shields said the pair were “gigging like crazy” and “almost passed out in hysterics” when they realized the “Cleopatra” actress was asleep in the room they had invaded.
