Inside Charli XCX’s New Movie Era After the First ‘The Moment’ Trailer

Charli XCX is officially making her next big move on the big screen. The Grammy-winning artist just dropped the first teaser for “The Moment,” an upcoming A24 film inspired by her own experiences navigating fame in the pop world. Directed by Aidan Zamiri, the movie centers on a rising pop star preparing for her first arena tour while juggling pressure, visibility and the emotional roller coaster that comes with being in the spotlight. In the brief footage, Charli appears to play a version of herself, reflecting on the intensity of her journey. “When I felt like people started to care about me, nothing else mattered,” she says. “Nothing was more important than Brat.”

Conceived by Charli, the project marks Zamiri’s feature-film debut and is produced by Charli alongside David Hinojosa, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The cast includes Alexander Skarsgård and Kylie Jenner. While the idea for the film was sparked by the pressure she felt to turn her life into a concert or tour documentary, Charli clarified that “The Moment” is a fictional “2024 period piece,” not a traditional behind-the-scenes film.

The teaser moves quickly between rehearsals and appearances, even showing a moment tied to “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” capturing the nonstop pace of celebrity life. According to the official description, the story follows an artist as she navigates industry expectations while gearing up for her arena debut. Though some may see a mockumentary influence, Charli has described the project as more of a satirical and emotional take on the music industry, with darker elements woven in, per Entertainment Weekly.

Off screen, she has been more open about prioritizing balance as she noted, according to Us Weekly. She has credited her husband, The 1975 drummer George Daniel, with helping keep her grounded and reminding her that separating real life from creative output is part of maintaining her peace.

New music, gothic visuals and the lingering impact of “Brat”

As she steps into the film world, Charli has also released new music tied to Emerald Fennell’s upcoming adaptation of “Wuthering Heights.” Her song “Chains of Love” is paired with a gothic, black-and-white video featuring supernatural visuals inside a grand hall. It follows a previous track titled “House,” and both songs will appear on a full “Wuthering Heights” concept album set to release one day before the movie’s Valentine’s Day premiere. The film stars Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff and Margot Robbie as Catherine, per Billboard.

This darker direction stands in contrast to the unapologetic, neon world of “Brat,” as Today noted. Released in 2024, the album sparked the viral “brat summer” movement, defined by a lime-green aesthetic, chaotic confidence and a take-no-apologies mindset. The album’s influence stretched across social media, fashion and internet culture, with Collins Dictionary later naming “brat” its 2024 Word of the Year. What began as a music release quickly became a full-blown pop culture moment.

“The Moment” is set to hit theaters Jan. 26, 2026.
