“I’ve learned from a very young age to pretend that I like stuff, to pretend that I’m happy, to pretend that I don’t like stuff that I do, to appear like everything is okay,” she said.

“I’ll get it done. And it caught up with me, and I think it always does for people. I’m now struggling with BPD.”

Borderline personality disorder, often called BPD, is a mental health condition that affects how people see themselves and interact with others.

It can lead to intense emotions, unstable relationships, and difficulty managing impulses.

Doja Cat said living with BPD has been deeply challenging, and something she believes has affected her for much of her life.

“I’ve been in therapy for years now, and I am so relieved and so proud of myself. I’ve made it so far, and I still make mistakes,” she said.

The singer described therapy as an important part of her healing process, helping her focus on treatment, self-reflection, and personal growth.

According to the Mayo Clinic, borderline personality disorder is a condition that “affects the way people feel about themselves and others, making it hard to function in everyday life.”

The disorder can involve intense emotions, unstable relationships, and impulsive behavior.

Why Doja Cat Says Honesty Became a Turning Point

During the TikTok video, Doja Cat reflected on one of the most important lessons she has learned during her recovery: being honest with herself.

“I had to learn how to be honest,” she said. “I had to learn how to be honest with myself. I lied to myself for years, for most of my life.”

She explained that recognizing those emotions and confronting them openly has become a key part of her healing process.

The singer has also spoken previously about prioritizing therapy.

During an appearance on the podcast “Angie Martinez IRL” in October 2025, she shared that regular sessions help her stay emotionally grounded and give her space to talk through what she is experiencing.

Doja Cat also took a moment in the video to praise fellow singer Chappell Roan.

She pointed to a recent incident in which Roan was seen filming paparazzi after asking them to leave her alone. For Doja Cat, the moment stood out because of how calmly and confidently Roan handled the situation.

“I love that she can do that without hurting people,” she said in the video. “She hasn’t hurt one person by being herself, and that shows that I can do the same.”

Doja Cat said the moment reminded her that honesty and self-acceptance can be powerful, especially as she continues working through her own mental health journey.
