She said, “I remember him being a really nice person. We went to shoot the video, and he was so sweet, and he just wanted to talk, and he introduced me to his husband, and his husband was so sweet, and they were just beautiful people.

I don’t know if you saw the video, but in the video, we’re talking. We’re really talking, he’s telling me a whole bunch of stuff, and I was listening. I’m glad I was there for him.”

George Michael Passed Away on Christmas 2016

According to the BBC, Michael passed away on December 25, 2016, at his home. His death came as a result of heart and liver disease. He was 53 years old when he passed. Following the tragic news, his family released a statement to The Press Association.

They said of Michael’s passing, “The family and close friends of George have been touched beyond words by the incredible outpouring of love for him in the hours and days since his death. For someone whose life was ultimately about his music and the love he had for his family and friends, his fans, and the world at large, there could be no more fitting tribute than the many, many, kind words that have been said and the numerous plays his records have received.

Contrary to some reports, there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, and from the bottom of our hearts we thank those who, rightly, have chosen to celebrate his life and legacy at this most distressing of times.”

This isn’t the first time Blige, who is gearing up for a Las Vegas residency, has discussed her friendship with Michael. She appeared on BBC Radio 2 in 2019. While there, she was asked about her favorite musical collaborators, and she listed Michael. The host then asked for more details about their connection with one another after noting that he was “sorely missed.”

Blige of Michael said, “I miss him so much. He became my friend, and he was one of the most beautiful people. One of the nicest, kindest… it was almost too good to be true, but he was a nice person. He was so good. So regular. So down to earth. He just felt good.”
