Mia Tyler is standing firmly behind Kelly Osbourne after the latter faced online criticism during what many have called one of the most difficult chapters of her life.
Kelly, 41, attended the 2026 BRIT Awards in Manchester on Feb. 28 alongside her mother, Sharon Osbourne, to accept a posthumous lifetime achievement honor on behalf of her father, Ozzy Osbourne, who died on July 22 at age 76.
While the moment was meant to celebrate Ozzy’s legendary career, attention quickly shifted online to Kelly’s appearance, with critics making harsh comments about her body.
Tyler Defends Osbourne
Tyler, 47, responded with a powerful message shared to Instagram on March 2, a which Kelly later reposted.
“Public grief is not public property. Grief can change a person,” Tyler wrote. “That doesn’t make their body a topic for debate.”
She continued, “Before you comment on someone’s body, consider the possibility that they’re carrying something heavier than your opinion. It takes real strength to stand in the public eye, accepting accolades for their late iconic father and hold themselves together in front of the world.”
“The least we can do is show the same grace in return,” Tyler added. “Kindness costs nothing. Cruelty costs character. It’s unsettling how quickly people will dissect someone’s appearance instead of honoring their courage. If you have the energy to comment, you have the energy to be kind. Choose accordingly.”
The daughter of Steven Tyler punctuated the post with a blunt caption: “How hard is it to not be a [explicative]?”
Kelly Previously Opened Up About Criticism
Kelly had already addressed the criticism herself a day earlier. In a March 1 Instagram Stories message, she wrote, “There is a special kind of cruelty in harming someone who is clearly going through something.”
“Kicking me while I’m down, doubting my pain, spreading my struggles as gossip, and turning your back when I need support and love most,” she added.
The awards show marked one of Kelly’s first major public appearances since her father’s death. As tributes to Ozzy filled the venue, Kelly and Sharon stood together to honor his decades-long legacy in music.
Tyler’s statement struck a chord with many fans who echoed her call for empathy, reminding critics that public figures — especially those navigating fresh loss — deserve compassion rather than commentary.
In a moment meant to celebrate a rock icon’s life, the message from Tyler and Kelly was clear: grief deserves grace.
