Former NFL player and current sportscaster Geg Olsen, who is best known for his role as a tight end for the Carolina Panthers, has shared some heartbreaking news on his social media accounts. The broadcaster, who now works for FOX covering NFL, has confirmed that his older brother has sadly passed away due to cancer.
Greg Olsen Pays Tribute to His Beloved Brother
Announcing the news on his personal Instagram account, Olsen explained that his brother had been diagnosed with Glioblastoma. This is a type of cancer that affects nerve cells and can occur either in the brain or the spinal cord.
Alongside a series of pictures of himself with his older brother, Chris, Olsen also provided a statement.
It reads, “It is with great sadness that I share this update. Despite fighting with every ounce of his being, my older brother Chris has lost his battle with Glioblastoma. This terrible disease took many things, but it could never take Chris’s spirit for life.”
Olsen continued, “These past few weeks, people came from all over the country to Little Rock to share Chris’ stories. We laughed. We cried. We remembered a larger than life personality who made everyone feel his love. More importantly, he was able to feel the love and impact he made on countless people over his 42 years.”
Concluding his message, Olsen asked that people keep Chris’ wife and family in their thoughts and prayers, while praising the way that his brother lived his life.
“Our family is devastated,” he wrote. “Everyone could take a lesson on how to live life from Chris. On behalf of our entire family, we thank everyone for their continued prayers and love. We have felt it. Love you brother ❤️”
