The reward offered for information to help find 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie and bring to justice those involved in abducting her from her Tucson home has doubled thanks to an anonymous donation. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has now confirmed that the reward now stands at $200,000 – significantly more than was initially offered by law enforcement agencies for information.
Nancy was last seen on January 31 and was officially reported as missing by family members the next morning. With her friends and relatives currently going through emotional turmoil, investigators will be hoping the increased reward will help motivate someone to come forward with details that will help make a breakthrough in the case.
Anonymous Donation Brings Reward Total for the Nancy Guthrie Case to $200,000
According to The Independent, the reward offered by local groups and law enforcement has doubled from $100,000 to $200,000 after an anonymous individual made a significant donation.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department told the outlet in a statement that the 88-CRIME tipline, which is organized and run by the local attorney’s office, received the donation earlier this week. As the donation was made anonymously, it is currently unclear exactly who has offered the extra reward money.
Local officials initially offered just $2,500 for information relating to the case. This was later increased to $100,000 after Milwaukee attorney Michael Hupy, the president of Milwaukee Crime Stoppers, pledged the additional cash for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
This is separate to the $100,000 reward that is also being offered by the FBI. FBI Phoenix shared a social media post last week saying, “Today, the FBI is increasing its reward up to $100,000 for information leading to the location of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.”
Law Enforcement Wants Help From Public to Locate Suspect
GettyAccording to reports, law enforcement investigators now want the public to be vigilant for individuals who match the description of the suspect but have also been living under the radar in recent weeks.
Officials believe that the kidnapper is likely to be lying low following the abduction. This means that they may not be as visible as they normally are, making them stand out compared to their usual daily routine.
Police have already released information about the suspect who appeared on surveillance footage. The man is believed to be between 5’9″ and 5’10” in height with an average build and facial hair that could be a mustache or a goatee.
