Savannah Guthrie bravely returned to New York City to pay a visit to her “Today” colleagues in the studio. Her return after more than a month away amid the disappearance of her mom, Nancy Guthrie, was met with tearful joy among her colleagues and co-hosts, including Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones.
“Today” Co-hosts Get Emotional On-Air Amid Savannah Guthrie’s Return
Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones opened the Thursday, March 5, episode of “Jenna and Sheinelle” with an emotional update on Guthrie’s surprise visit.
“Savannah has come back to her home here at 30 Rock, studio 1A. We got to see her this morning and in her perfect way she talked to all of us, hugged every single person in this room,” Bush Hager said through tears.
She continued, “She said that, you know, she has every intention to return to the show. Even though it feels like the hardest thing to do, it’s also her home and where she feels so loved. And she is beyond loved here. We are happy that she is home. I don’t know when she’s actually returning to the show. But she was here, and that felt so good to get to hug her.”
Jones, who lost her husband in May 2025, added, “It’s interesting because I think I handle moments like this differently now.”
“I am in some ways, I’m not smiling, but I feel…I’m proud of Savannah and I’m rooting for Savannah. And I know the strength that it would take even just coming here and to be amongst all of us,” she continued. “So I see it as, we’re in the storm. We’re not out of the storm, but there’s a light somewhere even in the midst of the storm.”
Savannah Guthrie Returns to ‘Today’ Studio
Guthrie has been absent from her hosting gig since her mother’s disappearance on February 1.
“Savannah Guthrie stopped by the studio this morning to be with and thank her TODAY colleagues,” the official “Today” Instagram account shared. “While she plans to return to the show on air, she remains focused right now supporting her family and working to help bring Nancy home.”
The 84-year-old mother of Savannah was taken from her home in the early morning hours of February 1, according to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos. The search for the elderly woman continues, as the Guthrie family increased the reward to $1 million for information that leads to their mother’s discovery and return.
