“Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star Mary Cosby has been very honest about how difficult it has been to navigate her son’s addiction issues. Robert Cosby Jr.’s problems first came to light during the fifth season of the Bravo series. Now, after a stint in rehab, Robert’s adjustment to life at home and his struggle to stay clean are already compelling parts of season six.
Mary Shares the Latest Update on Her Son’s Journey
BravoIn episode four of season six, Mary offers the latest update on her son while speaking with her cousin, “Big Joe.” The two are looking at the renovations that he has made to Mary’s Faith Temple Pentecostal Church, as they talk. “It will be cool to come back. And Robert is excited,” Mary said, as her cousin pointed out that Robert Jr. took his first steps in her church.
Big Joe asked how his nephew is doing after completing a 30-day rehab program, leading Mary to provide an honest update. “He’s good. I mean, we’re probably 100 times closer now. Which is even more hurtful, because now I know when he’s fallen off, especially now that I’m fully aware of what’s going on.”
“He’s got a good heart,” she continued. “I’m excited for us to come back to church. Church is always good to help. Bring him to church and have some prayer. That’ll help anyone.”
Robert Jr. Admits That He Is Struggling
BravoThis isn’t the first time this season that viewers have had an update on Robert’s sobriety journey. In the second episode, Robert admitted that he had faced some frightening difficulties since leaving rehab.
“I’m not in that dark place, but, like, it’s still there, if that makes sense,” he admitted. “I just didn’t expect it to be like this. You have to change who you are as a person. Like, you’re so used to doing something you do every day, and it’s a ritual. And then, you just come back home to where you used to do that ritual and you’re not doing it anymore.”
He admitted to Mary that he had been isolating himself a lot and that he was beating himself up for some of his still unhealthy patterns.
“Every day is not easy, and I know you have to take life day by day. Sometimes you fall, but you get back up. … We’re fighters. We fight,” said Mary to her son.
The reality star then shared her feelings about the conversation in a confessional.
“I feel like his whole life, I’ve always been that helicopter mom. And I feel like that drove him to be, like, not wanting to let me down, so not telling me the truth. And I felt like it’s actually changed me to back off and let him see that I trust that he’s going to make the right decision. Because it’s like you have to do it; we can’t do it for you.”

I wish my mother would have had one tiny part of your compassion and understanding for your son. You are a inspiration!
