“General Hospital” just revealed Curtis’ (Donnell Turner) fate following his trial for assaulting Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson). A jury found Curtis guilty of assault, which resulted in a life-changing injury for the doctor. Now, Curtis is headed to prison for at least two years, and fans are wondering whether that means the character’s time in Port Charles is up.
Is Donnell Turner Leaving ‘General Hospital’?
The fact that Curtis is going to prison doesn’t mean that he or his portrayer, Turner, are exiting the hit ABC soap. In fact, “General Hospital” seems to be setting up a Pentonville prison storyline.
Carlo Rotta (Sidwell) addressed his future on the show after Sidwell took a plea deal for his many crimes. The actor hinted his time on the show isn’t up as Sidwell hangs with a very familiar Port Charles face in Pentonville. It looks like Sidwell and Curtis could get to know each other better in prison.
After the “General Hospital” episode where Curtis learned his fate, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and Steve Burton’s (Jason) official Instagram page, Stone Cold and the Jackal, asked for fan thoughts on the storyline.
Many fans chimed in to say that it seems Sidwell and Curtis are about to be in very close quarters. “Sidwell’s new cell mate!” insisted a fan. Another fan added, “Also wouldn’t be shocked if he’s gonna be Sidwell cellmate.”
If Sidwell and Curtis form an unholy alliance, it wouldn’t be the first one Curtis has made recently to save himself. Despite Drew (Cameron Mathison) blackmailing Portia (Brook Kerr), Curtis agreed to let Drew lie for him at the trial to help prove Curtis’ innocence. Drew lied, but it didn’t do any good for Curtis, who’s headed for prison.
As of this writing, neither Turner nor “General Hospital” has commented on his status on the show.
Donnell Turner Looks Back on 10 Years On ‘General Hospital’
Last November, Turner celebrated a decade of playing Curtis, a character that started small but eventually had a whole family built around him. Curtis has been shot, paralyzed, learned he had a daughter, Trina (Tabyana Ali), married Jordan (Tanisha Harper), divorced her, married Portia, divorced her, and is now back with Jordan. That’s just a small fraction of what has gone down with Curtis in the past decade.
It’s been a whirlwind for Turner since Curtis hit Port Charles. The actor is filled with gratitude for being part of the ABC soap and the stories that have been told.
“I’m grateful for stability, longevity, and being respected and heard. I just love what they’re doing on General Hospital, and to be the first Black American legacy family on the show is just a huge privilege. I’m grateful beyond words,” she shared with TV Insider.
During his appearance on the Soapy podcast with “The Bold and the Beautiful” star Rebecca Budig (Taylor) and “Days of Our Lives” star Greg Rikaart (Leo), last spring, Turner revealed the role of Curtis was created for him after a failed audition. The actor also shared how he and his alter ego are alike and different, saying, “Curtis is the coolest part of me. I’m a little goofier than Curtis.”
Turner and Curtis face a whole new challenge as the character goes to prison and embarks on a new phase in his life.
