Kamilla Karthigesu Opens Up About Players Cheating on ‘Survivor’ 50

With “Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans” well underway, there have already been plenty of shocks and twists from the players. However, on “Survivor” star from the current season has confirmed that some contestants have seemingly cheated on the show by breaking one of the most serious rules.

Kamilla Karthigesu, who was kicked off the show during a dramatic triple elimination, confirmed that several castaways had taken part in a practice known as pregaming before appearing on the latest edition of “Survivor.”

Kamilla Karthigesu Confirms Season 50 Players Were Pregaming

One of the rules that all players sign up for when agreeing to take part in “Survivor” is that they won’t interact with other contestants prior to filming beginning in Fiji. This is done to help stop alliances being formed off-screen and to not put other players at a disadvantage before the competition officially starts.

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly following her exit from the season, Karthigesu responded to a question about it being obvious that some players had discussed strategy ahead of their appearance, to which she confirmed with a short “yeah.”

Karthigesu then went on to discuss how she was eliminated from the series and that people were openly discussing pregame alliances that had been made.

“So my thinking was, and this once again goes back to the knowledge that Mike has brought back to us from his journey with Savannah and Colby,” she said. “I thought that everyone knew it was open knowledge.”

She continued, “People were talking about pregaming alliances very openly this season. And so I thought maybe he knew, like, ‘Hey, if I wanna signal to people at this 17-person merge that I am not locked down, that I am willing to play with other people,’ that would’ve been the perfect time to do that. And so I seriously thought he was gonna do that.”

An earlier article from Entertainment Weekly had examined the problem of pregaming, especially on a season like this that features returning players who may already know each other. Several contestants were clear that the practice was taking place, although some refused to admit doing it themselves.

‘Survivor’ Season 49 Player Calls Out Co-Stars for Pre-Gaming

The issue of players pregaming is not unique to season 50. The previous season of “Survivor” also led to accusations that some of the competitors had cheated. In fact, two of the original cast were replaced ahead of filming with alternates, with host Jeff Probst explaining that they had violated the game’s rules in a blatant manner.

But finalist Sage Ahrens-Nichols believes that other castaways were also guilty of pregaming and need to take accountability for what they did.

“For our season specifically, the game began during pre-game,” she revealed, adding that, “In addition to the two people removed from the game, there were at least four others who ultimately played who should have been removed during pre-game. Three of these individuals have been confirmed to have met up at night to talk in secret.”

“I saw the theory about [Segreti] being ‘bad’ during pre-game in terms of talking,” said Ahrens-Nichols. “As some people know, I was the alternate for season 47. So I got the unique experience of being able to compare pre-game for 47 and for 49.”

“It was insane and caused our game to actually start during pre-game (and absolutely influenced dynamics within our game),” she continued, noting that there were “tiers” to the “talking offenders.”
