“Survivor” is almost ready to welcome 21 new castaways to Fiji.
After celebrating a milestone 50th season, the long-running CBS reality competition returns this fall with “Survivor 51.” Jeff Probst is back as host, an entirely new group of players is entering the game and another $1 million prize is waiting at the end.
There is also a major change coming to the game itself. Season 51 officially begins what Probst has called the “open era” of “Survivor,” meaning players can no longer assume that a twist or element from a previous season is permanently gone.
So, when exactly does “Survivor return?” Here is everything viewers need to know about the “Survivor 51” premiere date, start time and how to watch the new season.
When Does ‘Survivor’ 51 Premiere?
“Survivor 51” premieres Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
Fans should plan for an especially big opening night. The season will begin with a two-hour premiere, airing from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Beginning the following Wednesday, Sept. 30, “Survivor” will settle into its regular weekly schedule with 90-minute episodes airing from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET/PT.
Season 51 will feature 21 first-time players competing for the title of Sole Survivor and the show’s $1 million prize.
Probst also returns to oversee the competition after hosting the series since its debut in 2000.
How to Watch ‘Survivor’ 51
Viewers can watch “Survivor 51” on CBS every Wednesday beginning Sept. 23.
The new season will also be available through Paramount+.
Subscribers to the Paramount+ Premium plan can stream episodes live as they air on CBS. Episodes will also be available to stream on demand on Paramount+ beginning the day after their CBS broadcast for subscribers to any Paramount+ plan.
That means the premiere-night details are:

‘Survivor 51’ Begins a New Era of the Game
Season 51 isn’t simply another trip to the island.
Probst revealed during the “Survivor 50” finale that the next season will launch what the show is calling its “open era.”
“The open era is taking … the idea that anything that has ever happened, at any time on the show, can happen in any season — at any time, in any order, without any warning,” Probst explained during the finale.
The change follows the show’s “new era,” which began with “Survivor 41” and introduced a dramatically different style of gameplay, including a shorter 26-day format and an influx of new advantages and twists.
Season 50 served as something of a bridge between generations, bringing together returning players from different periods of “Survivor.” Season 51 now turns the game over to 21 newcomers who will have significantly less certainty about what production might throw their way.
And Probst has already offered an early review of what viewers can expect.
“We’ve shot 51. It is a very fun [season],” he said.
For the new group of castaways, however, “fun” may be relative. If the open era works as advertised, more than two decades of “Survivor” history could suddenly become fair game.
