The rumored winner of “The Bachelorette” season 22 is keeping things positive following the show’s sudden cancellation. Doug Mason is speaking out in support of lead Taylor Frankie Paul, sharing a message of encouragement as headlines continue to swirl around the halted season.
Mason, who was widely reported by spoiler blogger Reality Steve to have received Paul’s final rose, took to Instagram Stories to show his support. “In light of everything that’s happened, I’m just sending out prayers to Taylor because that was her moment and her moment was blocked,” he said. “All we can do right now is just be hopeful.” He also encouraged others to stay grounded, adding, “Let’s stay positive and show nothing but support for people in need.”
Doug Mason Shares Support Following Sudden Show Cancellation
The update comes after ABC made the decision to not move forward with season 22 just days before its planned premiere. According to Page Six, the network said, “In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of ‘The Bachelorette’ at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family.”
Despite the unexpected shift, those involved in the season have continued to show support for one another. Paul’s spokesperson also addressed the situation, saying she is “very grateful for ABC’s support as she prioritizes her family’s safety and security” and is “currently exploring all of her options, seeking support, and preparing to own and share her story.”
Other contestants have echoed a similar tone. Singer-songwriter Clayton Johnson praised the group of men from the season, writing that it was “one of the best groups” he’s been around and highlighting their “integrity, respect and heart.”

Mason quickly became a standout during filming, not just for his connection with Paul but also for his easygoing personality. The 28-year-old is an ocean lifeguard based in San Diego, California, and is known for his passion for helping others and staying active outdoors.
According to Cosmopolitan, Mason is also an avid surfer and someone who has “dedicated his life to keeping people safe.” Outside of work, he’s described as family-oriented and especially close with his sister, with hopes of building a big family of his own in the future.
