King Charles Adores Being a ‘Hands-On’ Grandpa With Prince William’s Kids: REPORT

King Charles III might be one of the most internationally famous monarchs, but he’s also a family man.

The king has five biological grandchildren between his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. After marrying Queen Camilla, he also gained five bonus grandchildren. According to insiders, King Charles absolutely adores children and fully embraced becoming a grandfather.

King Charles married Queen Camilla in 2005, uniting the families and gaining step-children and step-grandchildren. Although the monarch adores his family, he seems remarkably close to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s family.

The king became a first-time grandfather in 2013 when Prince William and his wife welcomed Prince George into the world. The child was soon joined by two siblings: Princess Charlotte in 2015 and Prince Louis in 2018.

“The King is close to all of the Wales children and regularly meets up with them at Windsor on Sundays,” Emily Nash reports for HELLO!

The Queen has often talked about her husband’s delight in reading books to his grandchildren, doing all the different voices in the Harry Potter series, for instance, and crawling around on hands and knees to entertain them,” Nash continues. “He clearly has a warm and playful relationship with them and delights in spending time with them when he can. No doubt it brings back happy memories of his own sons at the same age.”

Prince Louis Enjoys an Especially Close Bond With His Grandfather

Prince William and Kate Middleton named their third child Louis Arthur Charles in honor of William’s father. The king also has Arthur as one of his middle names.

“It is a great joy to have another grandchild,” King Charles publicly stated after Louis’ birth. “The only trouble is I don’t know how I am going to keep up with them.”

There have been plenty of sweet public photos of the king and Prince Louis together, particularly at Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. The young prince was just four years old at the time and enjoyed watching the festivities from his grandfather’s lap.

On April 23, 2026, Prince Louis celebrated his 8th birthday. Kensington Palace released an adorable video montage of the little boy in honor of the occasion. It’s not yet publicly known how King Charles celebrated the day with Prince Louis, but royal family enthusiasts know the monarch loves being very hands-on.

The King Breaks With Tradition and Puts Formalities Aside

In addition to letting his grandfatherly side shine through, King Charles is also breaking with formal tradition in another way.

Right now, he and Queen Camilla are planning a visit to the United States. While there will be a formal garden party for the occasion, the royals have discouraged hats. Top hats for men and elaborate head accessories for women have long been traditional elements of these events.

The king and queen will visit the United States from April 27-30 on official state business. Royal family enthusiasts sincerely hope they enjoy their stay.
