Prince William Gives Rare Update on Mischievous Prince Louis

Prince William is opening up about his youngest son’s budding musical talent. While visiting a youth group in London on September 9, the Prince of Wales revealed that 7-year-old Prince Louis is learning how to play different instruments and already shows a strong interest in music.

Prince Louis’ Musical Skills

William was quick to note that while he isn’t a drummer, his son would have gladly joined in on the fun. “I’m definitely not a drummer,” he told one of the teens during the visit, according to Hello! magazine. “I’m happy to see you do it. If my youngest was here, he’d have a go because he’s practicing at the moment. I wish I started when I was your age.”

The 43-year-old royal reflected on his own musical background, sharing that he once played piano, trumpet, and drums.

“I couldn’t read music, so that was my biggest weakness,” he explained. “I started off playing piano, trumpet and the drums, and then realized I had to memorize every tune, and it just fell away.”

William added that he and Kate Middleton are committed to encouraging all three of their children—Princess Charlotte, 10, Prince George, 12, and Louis, 7—to develop their skills. “I make sure my children learn music because I love music,” he said. “And it’s crucial — really important.”

Prince William Calls His Youngest a ‘Character’

During another engagement just one day earlier, William gave a rare glimpse into his youngest son’s personality. While meeting with the National Federation of Women’s Institute on September 8, which coincided with the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death, he was asked by member Nina Derrick if Louis was “a bit of a handful.”

“He’s a character, but he’s a very good boy. He likes to wind his brother and sister up,” William replied, according to the Daily Mail. The Prince of Wales also noted that George isn’t always the quiet and sensible child the public sees. “When George is behind closed doors, it’s completely different. George just knows how to behave,” he said with a smile.

The royal siblings most recently appeared together at Trooping the Colour in June, where Louis charmed the crowd by sneaking in the final wave as the family left the Buckingham Palace balcony. After the event, the Wales family retreated for their annual summer break. William admitted with a laugh this week that his children are now back in school, saying, “Thankfully, yes!”
