Although Prince Andrew has been formally stripped of his royal status, People reports that his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will continue to hold theirs. Under King George V’s Letters Patent of 1917, the daughters of a son of a monarch retain their royal styling and titles for life.
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie Will Retain Royal Titles
Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35, will remain princesses and continue to use “Her Royal Highness.” The two have long balanced royal duties with their own private careers — Beatrice works in finance and technology investments, while Eugenie focuses on philanthropy and art.
Andrew shares both daughters with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, whom he divorced in 1996. Despite the split, the pair have remained close and have continued to live together for years at their Windsor home, Royal Lodge — the same estate Andrew has now been ordered to vacate.
King Charles Orders Prince Andrew to Surrender His Royal Lodge Home
Buckingham Palace’s October 30 statement marked a major turning point for the disgraced royal. “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew,” the palace confirmed.
“Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease, and he will move to alternative private accommodation,” the statement read.
The palace added, “Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
The decision follows renewed scrutiny over Andrew’s connection to Jeffrey Epstein, which intensified after the release of Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir on October 21.
Andrew’s ties to Epstein have shadowed him since his 2019 interview with BBC’s “Newsnight,” where he attempted to explain his friendship with the convicted sex offender.
Andrew settled Giuffre’s civil lawsuit in 2022 for an undisclosed amount and stepped away from public life shortly afterward.
Sarah Ferguson to Move Out and ‘Forge an Independent Life’
With Andrew losing his residence, Sarah Ferguson is also expected to leave Royal Lodge. A source told People that the Duchess of York “is going to be moving out and into a separate home.”
“Contrary to reports, she has never asked for a property or any provision for herself,” the source added. “She will continue to forge an independent life.”
A separate insider said Ferguson plans to “move forward independently,” while maintaining her close relationship with Beatrice and Eugenie.
